Advantages: cheap, no mess, parents have good time too

Disadvantages: must have goo weather

My daughter's birthday is in June which is perfect for outdoor parties. She is only two and both of her parties have been brillient. No mess, no hassle and not too much money.

The first year it was more of a family occasion as she was too young to understand so we only needed to entertain her cousins.

There is a really nice family pub near us called the horse and groom which has a garden for all the kids to play. The tables are in the garden right next to a bouncy castle, loads of little tikes toys, a climbing frame and even some rabbits and an avery. All for free. All we had to do was buy from the restaurant, which is inside the pub, some nibbles and drinks for the kids and all the mums and dads stayed and bought their own lunch and drinks.

We supplied the party bags of course. It was great as we did not need to clear up any mess and we were not responsible for all the children.

This year again we had an outdoor party. We have a great park near to us with a really clean paddling pool and a lot of childrens entertainers like magician etc... (only on sundays or summer hols)
There is also a train which takes the children from one end of the park to the other. The small lake has boat rides and ducks to feed. So a really great day out if the weather is good. We decided it would be nice to have a teddy bears picninc. This involved us taking a huge blanket and lots of picnic food and sitting on the grass while the little ones played football, hula hoops and generally run riot. We took a portable stereo so we could play musical bumps and statues. Then we took everyone to see the clowns and magician.

It was a really successful party as it was free!!

The advantages of these kind of parties is that instead of running around making sure people have drinks or spillages are being mopped up I could spend the day with the most special person, my daughter.

It did not matter what time people left o
r the mess that was made because it was not in my house.

Another big tip for those of you who want to try a picnic is to buy the party boxes like Mcdonalds happy meal boxes and fill them up before you start out. It prevents the kids trampling on the food and keeps flies away. You can buy them for about 50p each from good party shops.

My daughter also has a birthday in the winter like Jessyclown. I am going to plan to have my next one in the summer! We are hiring our church hall this year as it was so much hassle having it at home last year. I remember having teddy bears picnics for my birthday parties even though it was in April - although we did live in the middle of the desert when I was little, so it was always hot enough for this kind of thing. Beach parties were great as well - we used to light a fire and have a sing song with my mum playing her guitar. Those were the days! Jo
