Advantages: Good range and well stocked

Disadvantages: Can't compete with the large supermarkets for a big shop

I have two Co-ops within walking distance of me (one 5 minutes the other 15 mins) and for a small shop I find it really good.

I still do my main shop at Tesco online and go to Sainsburys for extra bits and pieces so only really use the Co-op for last-minute things or if I only need a couple of bits.

The shops near me are both quite small, sort of large corner shop size and hence they don't stock a vast range of goods nor have I ever seen a budget range in there so the prices are more than I would normally pay as I tend to go for budget or special offers. However they sell a bit of everything, they have basic foodstuffs and more interesting ranges and I think they do small grocery shops better than any other company.

As I said I wouldn't do my main grocery shop there but would choose a very large supermarket (I've never seen a very large Co-op so if they exist I can't comment on them) but for a small shop to get the odd things from I would choose a Co-op over a Spar, Somerfield, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. I've seen plenty of all of those that are larger than my local Co-op but with a poorer range despite being very cramped.

Summary: I love having one at my local shops but couldnt' live without Tescos
