Advantages: good offers, fair trade and organic goods

Disadvantages: my local is often too busy!

I must admit, I've never been a huge fan of co-op - however that's changed recently.

Where I grew up there was always a co-op in the village. I only ever nipped up to the village for a magazine but very rarely for anything else. I viewed it as a 'corner shop' and with that image came the view that it was more expensive that your 'normal' supermarkets that you use for your big shop.

I have recently moved to another town and got myself a house and again we have co-op in the local village. I have however been very impressed with what I've seen so far. I've used it for our supply of bread and milk and any other emergency things that crop up. When I've been in I've been impressed with the number and value of offers that they have on. These offers are comparable to, if not better than, some of the larger supermarkets stores that you get. For example one off that was on this evening was a brand of mature cheese (can't remember the brand) but at £3.00 but on BOGOF (buy one get one free) offer. There were other offers which I can't remember, this is the only one that stuck out!

The meat that co-op stocks is known for being organic/free range and having had some of their chicken, I can say that the quality was excellent. Their meat is often on the same offers as other food stores (2 for £x). As well as stocking good quality meat, co-op prides itself in stocking a range of fairtrade goods - ranging from chocolates to wine.

Alongside the regular offers my local co-op has a reduced section which often has a range of goods in but due to not having a freezer (yet!) I've not been able to take advantage of these.

Like many other food stores co-op does have a reward card but I don't know much about this yet so can't comment on it much.

My view of co-op certainly has been changed and I will shop there more than previously!

Summary: give it a try!
