Advantages: You get cash in hand
Disadvantages: Dont always have what you want, awful customer service
CEX is one of the shops I use the most. We used to use it loads, particularly in the summer when none of our mates were around and we were constantly swopping dvds around.
The aim of the shop is to recycle electrical goods, to stop people from throwing them away.
Its a nice idea, the only trouble is that you never know whether the thing you want will be there. The website isnt much help, its so slow and isnt accurate to whats actually in the stores.
We take our old xbox games, and dvds to trade them in for either cash or for a voucher. You get more money for a voucher than if you choose to get cash, so its worth doing this if you want to buy things as well.
We are currently stuck with a load of vouchers as they havent had much that we wanted recently.
They have a good selection of dvds, some brand new and some quite old, but the older they are, the cheaper. I usually buy animated films like Robot, Ratatouille there because they are cheaper than the other high street shops.
They are quite expensive for games, most games dont go down in price much like they do in other shops, but its enabled my boyfriend to save a lot of money on xbox 360 games.
They also buy and sell mobile phones. When my phone broke and I needed a temporary one, I got one there for £20 that worked fine and was on my network. They test all the phones and electrical products before they buy them, so you know it will work ok. The only things they dont test are memory cards, games and dvds.
They arent too cheap for things like nintendo ds, they are just as expensive in CEX as they are in other shops, and in other shops they arent second hand.
The staff in the Leeds branch are all very much metal heads, so theres always annoying metal music very loud in the shop. It doesnt make it very pleasant to look around for long.
Theres always a massive queue if your selling things, if you just buying you get picked out of the queue to go to a seperate till.
You have to get a membership card if you want to sell or trade anything. So remember to have your drivers license with you, or something with your address on.
You wont get the most amazing customer service here, the staff are always chatting about weird computer things to each other or head banging to their tills. If you dont mind that as they are just about to give you cash, then its ok. But dont take your mum in there, she wont like it.
Also, someone just pushed in front of me in the queue, they werent English and looked quite scary, but the staff served them first, they arent very aware of customers really.
If you want to just buy things there, its not really worth it as you can get a lot of the products the same price on the high street, but if you want to get rid of a lot of dvds or games or anything like that then its great, as they will just give you cash in hand.
Summary: Worth it for the money!
