Advantages: Comfort and more comfort
Disadvantages: Price, slippery when wet and they eventually wear out!!!!
Conker Handmade shoes. Handmade shoes constructed of dyed leather and either crepe or rubber soles. Sold throughout England they are made locally and available in outlet shops in Exeter and Totnes. Available in adults and children sizes, they can be made in all colours, and in most styles. My first pair of Conker shoes were bought in 1987, resoled in 1993, and has only recently gone to the bin. They are handmade, and the fitting service is spectacular. There are off the shelf shoes and shoes that are constructed to your own specification by which you supply outline of your feet and additional measurements and they are then made to fit your feet. An extra charge is made for this service. I have owned many pairs of Conkers in varied designs and colours, and they have never failed to provide slipper like sensations in my toes within the first week of wearing them, and were so comfortable, almost like being barefoot. Occasionally they initially rub, but that seldom happens unlike most other shoes that I have ever worn. They neither restrict nor irritate my toes. Expensive I know, at a cost of at £50 for basic adult shoes and at least £30 for kid’s shoes, they are not a cheap alternative. There are ways around that and when you buy shoes and boots from them in their sales, they are at a remarkable knockdown price. There are other advantages in buying children’s from there, as they can be stretched at least half a size, to allow extra that much more wear, which I feel is invaluable for rapidly growing feet. I have never worn the upper of any of my shoes out, but it is not cost effective to resole them more than once, unless you have a real attachment to them, as resoling can cost as much as buying a new pair in their sales. I love the feel of my soft supple hippy boots on my feet. And the way the uppers have moulded themselves to the exact shape of my foot. I have shoes for every occ
asion, boots, sandals, shoes, you name it, and in Technicolor too. A word of warning though, in wet weather they are treacherous and incredibly slippery, and extreme caution should be exercised in the rain. Conker can supply rubber non-slip soles at an extra charge. They need to be waterproofed regularly as the dye does run when the shoes are wet. I have and will continue to recommend Conker shoes to all of my friends and family, most of who already own at least one pair. Although expensive they are money well spent, after all keeping your feet in good condition is a sound move on anyone’s part. Remember to check that you have taken them off when you get into bed. .

I haven't had any shoes from them for several years now, at one time I had 3 pairs on the go! think I will have to pay them a return visit, coming to Cornwall next week, might stop off here on the way! Thanks for rating my op too!

- 11/10/00 If you look in Woolworths you can buy soles that you can stick on yourself for less than a fiver! |
