Advantages: Cheap, bulk goods, huge range of product
Disadvantages: Limited lines, big queues
I am not a fan of shops and find shopping malls more painful than wrenching out my tenails, yet something about Costco excites me.
If you are unsure of what Costco is, well it is an American giant of a store which offers goods ranging from clothes to food to electronics at cheap prices and in gargantuan sizes. You wouldn't come here to buy a toothbrush perse, but you may buy a pack of 20 for £9.99 (plus VAT - always remember that VAT!). Yes everything is oversized to the extent where you can walk through a food aisle and feel like a child, which may help somewhat to explain why this store excites me. Their products cover many areas and services including opticians, photo printing, tyre service, books, DVDs, furniture and so on but the actual range of products within each area may be limited to just one or two types. This isn't usually a problem because most lines are of high quality.
You do need to pay a yearly membership fee to shop here, which apparently helps keep prices down though I suspect it keeps it in an elitist realm of purchasers (another thing that excites me!). Also a lot of the bargains can still be found cheaper online and, if you're a savvy shopper, on the high street.
However, all in all as long as you're not there on a busy Saturday this shopping experience is pleasurable and different, even for a misanthope like myself.
Summary: Massive american style shop offering good quality goods at bargain prices
