Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: none
I went to a networking event the other day for work and it was sponsored by Costco. I had heard of Costco before but I didn't know much about it other than it is a cash and carry/warehouse store. I thought you needed to be a business to use it so I wasn't really interested.
I actually found out that it is a warehouse store as I thought but it is far more than that. It sells food but also much more such as household goods and furniture. I also found out that while you can use it if you have a business or are self employed like most cash and carrys, other people can use it too.
I work for a University and I was eligible to join. I was given a day pass as a trial to see whether I wanted to buy a years pass. A years pass is only £23 so I decided to try it out and see if it was worth it.
The one in cardiff is massive! As well as all the food, I was suprised to discover that you can but electrical goods such as wide screen TVs, cameras and computers, household items, tools, furniture, jewellery and you can even have your eyes tested. It has everything and everything is a well known brand name!
I am going to buy a years pass because I think you would make your money back in one shop. As an example, you can buy 1610 PG Tips Tea Bags in a sack (a sack of tea! Fantastic!) for only £15! 160 tea bags are about £4 in the super market. The savins on alcohol was brilliant too. A real saving.
Costco let you in on a free day pass so it really is worth a look. I think you'll be suprised who can join too as I was eligible and I don't own a business. It is great if you don't mind buying in bulk. Maybe not great if you don't have the storage space though.
