Advantages: Cheap goods; good range on offer.
Disadvantages: Membership fee & joining restrictions
I've visit Costcos occaisonally with a friend who is a member. It seems quite similiar to Makros in that it sells individual products ranging from bakery products and clothes to electronics and car tyres(!) alongside bulk cash and carry type stuff. I wouldn't pay the £20 odd myself to join as I don't visit often enough to make it worthwhile. Costcos does have some goods on offer at a good price. Although most of the goods are the same sort of price at a "normal" cash and carry or indeed Makro. However, I practically live on their cheap noodles. They also sell nice, cheap in-house products. I would pay for the membership if there was a store in Dundee just for the bagels! They also sell good cheap food in there in store cafe. For car owners, (not sure if this is just the Edinburgh store) they sell and fit cheap car tyres. You can get new tyres for the usual price ofreconditioned ones! If you can't join a cash and carry but can join Costcos - I advise it. Or if you are eligible to join a cash and carry (a company director or similiar) but like sweet tasty bread products then join anyway. Like Makro, Costcos only has three stores in Scotland (Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow). I think there are aound 10 stores in England. Unfortunatly to join Costcos you have to be in a certain job (can't remember the list but will post it when i get hold of the details). But if you know a member there's norealpoint in getting your own card unless you plan on visiting regularly.
