Don't get me wrong they have some cracking deals and the offers change weekly however if it is something specific you want like a tin of tomatoes or a loaf of bread then you are bound to pay over the odds for them. I think that they know that they have a captive market and you are stuck having to pay these prices. I think the most marked up thing is the ... more

Premium Review Costcutters: Handy but expensive (353 words)

I live in a small village And there is a costcutters as the village shop. It is extremely handy and has fairly good opening times, from seven in the morning until nine at night and with the bus service ending at six it is often handy to pop over for bits that I have forgotten from the supermarket. I wouldn't be able to do my main shop in here though as the prices are not at all competitive. Don't get me wrong they have some cracking deals and the offers change weekly however if it is something specific you want like a tin of tomatoes or a loaf of bread then you are bound to pay over the odds for them. If you've read many other of my shopping related reviews, you'll know that I'm quick to jump in and have a moan about Costcutter. My local corner shop used to be a Tesco Metro, which was fantastic as it was open from 6am-11pm and often had great deals on sandwiches (e.g. 65p). But when I moved, my nearest was a Costcutter. My local Costcutter is quite small and dingy looking. It is quite deceptive however, as it sells surprising things. For example, it has quite a good selection of baking goodies, which Tesco Metros don't tend to. However, there are some 'normal' things it doesn't sell, particularly in terms of fruit and veg. There are also randomly sized ...  Read the complete review

Costcutters: Surcharges on cigerettes (221 words)

My local Costcutters is located on Uxbridge Road Hayes End Middlesex. Since the store opened they have charged a fee of £0.50p for purchases below £6.00 using a visa debit card, I accepted this and always ensured that any purchases I make are above £6.00, however, today the shop appears to have changed their tactics. I was on track to buy 20 cigerettes and a magazine total £6.38, however I was informed the total purchase price was £6.88. When I queried this I was informed they have got to charge an extra 50p to customers buying cigerettes using a debit card. I queried this and was informed there is no profit on cigerettes. Does this shop not realise there has got ...  Read the complete review

Costcutter stores are a very strange store, they are not all run by the one company, well not directly anyway. Most of the stores operate on a franchise basis which allows the owner of the franchise to dabble with various things in the store which leads to not all costcutters stocking the same items at the same prices. Costcutters HQ will have offers on and these offers will appear in all stores but outside of the offers the person holding the franchise is responsible for stocking and pricing. I have two costcutters stores close to me and apart from the offers, one store is always more expensive than the other. Even the more expensive store of the ...  Read the complete review

i have two costcutters in walking distance where i live, one has a large post office inside and the other is a smaller outlet. they sell everything you could need from fresh fruit and veg , frozen, tinned produce, dairy, alcohol and newspapers and magazines. i find the smaller outlet so handy and convenient, its on the way to my childs school, so if i have ever run out of something i can just pick it up on the way, the staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them, they also take time out to talk to my daughter, she loves going in there to get her sweets and magazines from there. every month i pick up a brochure as they ...  Read the complete review
