*MY REVIEW*
I popped along to 'Cult Clothing' one day because my friends were giving it such rave reviews. Although I'm not a skater or punky in any way, my friends assured me that this shop catered for every taste, including my tame jeans-and-a-t-shirt taste. So, off I went, expecting a decent shopping trip. Dear Lord, was I surprised...
*Price*
The first thing you notice about this shop is the extortionate price tags. A tiny shirt in here can cost you from £25 to £50. This is utterly ridiculous, especially considering the target market are school and university students, who don't exactly make a tonne of money. Jeans start off at around £40, and you won't get a jacket for anything less than £60. What a joke. These aren't designer clothes. They're not made from some fantastically expensive or quality fabrics. It's just a classic case of over-pricing. I could walk along to Buchanen Galleries, into H & M and buy myself three times the amount I could in Cult for the same price.
*Variety*
Not much. If you're looking for weird, fair enough, go here. If you want a pair of normal jeans, don't even bother. Every pair of trousers seems to have a pre-requisite 3ft flare at the bottom, yet a tiny waist. The shirts are all over-crammed with illustration. If you're looking for a plain colour print, you're going to be disappointed.
*Quality*
After finding one pair of chords that weren't too expensive (it took a while), I tried them on with the thought that the quality had to be pretty good, considering the price. WRONG. Badly made, strangely proportioned and already fraying at the waistband despite never having left the shop, they were in a pathetic condition. Friends who have bought jeans from this shop have also told me that within a matter of weeks they've lost their shape. At the end of my shopping trip I had purchased one t-shirt and jumper (my friends convinced me, damn them). Within a week, my jumper had shrunk and the t-shirt colour had faded an unbelievable amount. The only redeeming feature at this point was the shop allowed me to return the items. HOWEVER, no money back, no siree, I got a credit slip. Ha ha, like I'd want to purchase anything else of of here. I've still got the slip, by the way, which I recieved almost two years ago now.
*Service/Staff*
Nothing much to be desired. They weren't unfriendly, but I did get the distinct impression they were quite condescending. I noticed the changing room guy sniggering at a girl's choice of outfit, which peeved me to no end.
*Conclusion*
Over-priced, crap variety, poor quality, poor staff, poor return policy. If you want to buy some decent clothes without breaking the bank, walk right past Cult Clothing and get your rational bum into H & M.

I meant 'not designers' in terms of...D&G, or something. I don't wear labels myself, but I just meant that for such high prices, you'd expect some good designer names. I don't really count Paul Frank, his stuff is all the same, really, very boring. I haven't encountered The Road jeans, but I'll take your word for it! Thanks for giving me a comprehensive comment, I always like replying to a challenged point. :-)

- 03/03/05 Nice review. I'm not really impressed with the prices and the snotty shop assistants in Cult, but some of the stuff they do is pretty good. The Road jeans are really well made and last for ages. And what do you mean no designers??? Cult is a designer shop I've never seen anything in there not labelled. They might be less mainstream (ie more Paul Frank and Dickies than RL), but they are definitely designers. i have a few cute items from Cult I love, including a fantastic poncho, but they are way overpriced and the staff suck so I tend to avoid.
