Advantages: At least I hadn't already paid.
Disadvantages: Bad customer service.
I think I must have accidentally switched my invisibility cloak on this morning...
I reserved an item online to collect in my local store - Purley Way, Croydon. Reserving the product was quick and easy and the website was easy to use. I had the option to have it delivered for free and I really wish I'd done that. However, the store is close by so I decided to get out in the fresh air and collect it myself.
The counter for Reserve & Collect was clearly marked and situated near the entrance. When I arrived a member of staff was using the phone there so I waited politely. When she finished her call she walked off without even glancing at me. Nearby there were a couple of people queueing at Customer Services. There were about five members of staff behind that counter but they didn't even glance in my direction. Finally another member of staff turned up and started rooting around behind the Reserve & Collect counter. I waited politely. He ignored me. He didn't try and find out what I wanted, he didn't explain that he didn't work on that section or that he would be with me in a moment. He didn't even glance at me. I stood there like a lemon for about five minutes (it felt longer but I checked my watch). I know I could have said something to him but I really don't like being blanked by shop staff.
If I had already paid for the goods I would have trudged off in search of a manager at this point. Luckily with Reserve & Collect you pay instore so I decided that I would much prefer Currys' competitors to have my money instead and walked out.

09.11.09 - UPDATE
Following this incident I contacted Currys head office and they have now apologised and told me they are checking up on this store. Hopefully there will be an improvement in staff attitudes soon!
Summary: I won't be buying anything from this store in future.

- 03/11/09 You would have thought that keeping the company in business and hence saving their jobs would be enough motivation given the state of the economy at the moment, but they don't seem to have thought of that :-) |

- 02/11/09 I think they abolished commission in the last year or so, so they've got no reason to actually SELL anything ;o) |

- 01/11/09 That's about the same treatment I've had when ordering in-store too. You put your hand on the actual fridge you want to buy, with no effort from them, and half an hour later you find that they 'don't stock them'. |
