What is happening to the standard of the electrical shops in this country? I remember as a kid going into these places and being fascinated by the range of products especially the TV's. Lately I have been looking for a new television and decided to do the rounds on the shops. When I walked into Curry's I could not believe the condition of some of the TV?s.
Many looked like they had been part of the allied forces, scratched, scared, broken.... and they want to sell them to you. I asked if they had any of a particular model in stock, "only the one on show but we can do you a deal...free cover for three years".
The TV was on sale for £1500 had grooves in the surface; covers on the set controls broken off and a stand that had been in the recent stock car event.
Do they really think that people are willing to pay that sort of money and then get something which a second hand retailer wouldn't even bother trying to sell.

Undeterred I passed one of their so called "Discount Warehouses". I should have guessed what to expect. I imagined a discontinued stock item with maybe a couple of scratches reduced by a reasonable sum of money. What did I find.... the stock that appeared as if it had been collected from the local dump for vast savings of between £20 and £50.
When there is all the competition of on-line selling, free delivery and a great saving in price why do the electrical stores continue to do themselves out of business? I know that there are economics around the price of items Vs cost to company but the difference in price and visual affect of what you are greeted with in the store is like something out of "Dawn of the Dead".

Drop the prices to be more competitive and give the impression that the warehouse is not like baggage handling at a major airport.

Thanks. If you know the TV you are after then put the code into pricerunner.co.uk. I bought my Toshiba for £750 when everyone else was selling it for £900 - £1000. That price included delivery and it turned up in three days.

I know what you mean, most currys stores appear grubby or with huge gaps. If you live in south (west) london try Allders. i went into the TV department only yesturday and the level of quality of equipment. All i need now is the cash!
