Bought a gas cooker and asked for them to install it on the Saturday, After waiting I finally got a phone call informing me that the engineer was off sick and that they had to cancel - Nice of them to let me know so late. After asking for compensation I managed to get free delivery and installation. The cooker was meant to be setup today and had ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Currys: Store malpractice (I managed customer services and repairs) (640 words)
by - written on 27/11/09 (Very useful, 16 readings)
Rating:

It has become common practice within the retail industry for companies to adopt extreme selling techniques to fulfill strenuous targets set by higher tiers of authority. During my time as a Currys employee, I experienced many unorthodox methods of selling and dealing with customers, especially when involving those who are unknoweldgable, or ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Currys
by sean mcinnes - written on 26/11/09
Rating:

We have just returned a combo microwave after great aggrevation from the staff in store. They insisted that we had no consumer rights and could only get a credit which we refused. They even suggested that we had broken the glass turntable when it had cracked in half from heat - i dont see how we could have broken it so cleanly even if we tried. I was certain I had rights and am glad I stuck with it and insisted on a refund. We were within the 28 day return period but they still insisted we had no right to return the item. Clearly they are hardball about it all and dont deserve the business in the first place, so I encourage you to shop elsewhere! If you need to return, take a copy of comsumer rights with you because their opinion is very distorted.

I went to currys to buy a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. After working out what I wanted, I asked if they could give me a discount as I was spending over £2000. They said no, but they would price match any cheaper price I could find.

I found a cheaper price (sainsburys online) and got it from there instead.

Sloppy service and overpriced.

Express Review on Currys
by Senior appliance engineer - written on 03/11/09

Curry's are the archetypal British big business. Cynical and greedy.
Shiny front end with poorly trained staff who know little or nothing about the products that they sell.
Much emphasis is placed upon the sale of guarantees because the DSG group, of which Curry's is a member, owns the insurance company.
The only time you'll get any genuinely concerned and caring service is if you hold a gun to their heads. A knowledge of Trading Standards and the Sale of Goods Act is a prerequisite. They WILL try to undermine your statutory rights and they WILL lie to you .
I used to work for a major appliance manufacturer and I've been 'behind the scenes' and they're a disorganised shower.
There are a number of 5* reviews here. Curry's must tell their staff to do this! There is nothing five star about this company.

I think I must have accidentally switched my invisibility cloak on this morning... I reserved an item online to collect in my local store - Purley Way, Croydon. Reserving the product was quick and easy and the website was easy to use. I had the option to have it delivered for free and I really wish I'd done that. However, the store is ...  Read the complete review

Currys is a large store selling electrical goods of all sizes, you can buy your alarm clock from currys, your freezer, tv, kettle, laptop, tumble dryer etc. They also sell any accessories you may need for your electrical goods. As far as choice and range of prices, currys is good. Although I do feel that with a bit of shopping around ...  Read the complete review

Over a week ago I bought a new fridge freezer from Currys, I must admit we actually caught a day when the staff were not stood around in a huddle chatting. Delivery was arranged a week later on a Saturday, we did the phoning the night before as advised and had the early slot. Then began our problems. On the morning of delivery we got a ...  Read the complete review

Touching wood, considering the mostly scathing reviews that Currys eletrical shop has earned itself from others on this site, I'd tentatively say that I don't find them too bad, actually. What prompted me to write this review is that Currys recently came out near the bottom of a (I think) 'Which'-magazine-sponsored survey, in terms of ...  Read the complete review

I purchased a brand new Packard Bell Easynote LJ65 from my local Currys in mid-July 2009. Six weeks later, the laptop died. It would not switch on. I took it to my local Currys store, which is only five minutes walking distance away, only to be told that they wouldn't look at it here and that I would need to call the repair centre for a diagnosis. ...  Read the complete review

Currys is a store that I have spent a fair bit of time in in the past and the experience was generally fairly good, but not always. Currys is a specialist electronic retailer which is part of the Dixons Store Group (DSG) retail company, which owns other shops such as PC World and Dixons. It sells White and brown goods, small domestic appliances ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on Currys

After the dozens of times trying to get things online and in store Ive finally decided to write a review and never use Currys/Dixons again. They constantly advertise low prices but of these items they have NEVER been in stock. They will have the more expensive iten which you actually can get cheaper else where. I have also tried to use their scrappage scheme, but always get that product is delivered from the manufacture.
In store is worse with unhelpfull and poorly informed staff.

After having a bad experience with Currys today, I thought I'd come on here and vent my fury, however seeing that there are 155 reviews written about Currys and the overall rating is a mere 2/5, I'm now even angrier. Currys is a leading electrical retailer selling a wide range of electrical goods from TVs and DVD players to Cookers and fridge freezers. They are one of the better priced electrical retailers out there beating Argos (and for the mostpart Comet) hands down. Although they are reasonably well priced the customer service lets them down.
