I've been bought up with Debenham's and some strange reason when my mum used to drag me in there as a kid, I used to hate it, wandering round looking at useless pots and pans, and then being dragged to the ladies clothes section, whilst mum kept trying on ridiculously horrible floral dresses as I sat on a chair waiting, bored senseless, for her to choose the first one she tried on and ended up buying it. I used to think why are mum's like that, how can they spend so long in such as big boring shop and actually enjoy it. The only part that I used to enjoy was lunch, because she used to take me in the Debenhams cafe and we would have dinner in there and that would be the highlight of my shopping trip with her.

It's not until you grow up that you realise that it is not a mum thing, its just women in general thing and even though I don't have children I find myself doing what my mum used to do and I hated so much. I can spend hours in Debenhams just mooching around because it is such a great shop from women and all under one roof.

The Debenhams in Stoke on Trent is within the Potteries Centre, and it probably takes up 25% of the centre alone dedicated to this one shop. Over three floors, one floor for house and home, one floor for men and the younger generation of female, and the last floor for the more mature women, cosmetics and fragrances.

House and Home

This used to be the most tedious aspect of Debenham for me, however is now one of my favourites. Seperated in different areas, lounge, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, you can find more or less everything that you need all in one shop and its a lot better quality, however the prices on some items are a little bit more expensive.

For those people that like the finer things in life, for example crystal, dining sets, silver cutlery and expensive figurines, there is a huge section that displays all these kind of things, the more expensive in glass cabinet display to protect from the light fingered thieves as these sort of items are a prime target for thieves in Stoke on Trent, purely because of the pottery industry and they can easily sell them.

The kitchen section section features many of the big names now, the likes of chef's that have created there own ranges and are now available to buy in department stores. Whatever you are looking for whether it be a blender, food processor, or just some oven gloves, you are sure to find it within this area of the store.

They do have quite a large section dedicated to curtains, however I find that I don't like a lot of the curtains and cushions that they do in Debenhams and sometimes think they are falling behind with the times when it comes to items like these.

For the bathroom, they have every single colour towel under the sun, various designs and matching soap dispensers and dishes to make sure your bathroom is co-ordinated. There are a lot more modern things in this area and a lot of different things that are a delight to add to you bathroom.

In the home section of Debenhams you can also find the cafe located on this floor, however I have never found myself going into it since I shop in there, which is strange because it was the main aspect that I liked when I was a kid, being dragged around with my mother.

Located in the middle floor and this is the floor that majority of people access Debenhams you will find this section for the men and the younger female. Although I never really look at the things that they do for men, I do find that at Christmas time, they do have quite a lot of nice gifts that are ideal for your husband boyfriend as a stocking filler and I only tend to venture into this area during that particular season.

The floor has too much, more beneficial to myself to be bothered with the men's area, with a Morgan, Jane Norman, Oasis, Kookai, and various other outlets for the younger generation. Although these are not proper shops and are quite small compared to if you went into these shops in the likes of Manchester, they still cary quite a good range, and as my mother used to do, I find myself in the Jane Norman changing rooms on every occasion I visit and more than likely end up making the purchase of the first thing that I tried on.

The top floor is for older lady, with more sensible and conservative clothing. Lingerie is also on this floor and they do have a wide selection of underwear, some at not a bad price either.

However, the best part of the top floor has got to be cosmetics and fragrances. I always pay a visit to the Clinique counter, which never takes long as I always know what I want. There are plenty of other cosmetic brands, Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, just to name a few so its an ideal place for the lady that likes to look after herself and pamper herself. With all the new fragrances on display and testers available to try them, I always seem to come out with more than I intended.

The staff in Debenhams are a mix match really. You get the polite and helpful member of staff, whi is delighted to serve you and help you out if you need assistance, and then there is the different calibre of staff, the one working on commission who thinks they ae someone because the work in Debenhams department store, the false smile and the fake nicey nice talk, which probably is put on just to make the sale, as I believe commission isn't too bad on these sort of products.

In general, Debenhams has got to be one of my favourite stores, without a doubt, and I bet I am not one of the only females out there that thinks that either.
