Advantages: Everything under one roof
Disadvantages: Stuffy, busy and split over 5 levels
My review of Debenhams department store is based entirely on the Glasgow store.
For those of you who don't already know, Debenhams is a large department store which houses boutiques of many high street stores and of it's own designers. It has an array of departments from perfumery to kitchen ware and even a cafe/coffee shop. The Glasgow store covers five levels in total with both escalators and lifts for access. As far as I'm aware the toilets are located on the first floor (womens clothes 1) and the cafe/coffee shop is on the ground floor. I'd like to point out that the ground floor is not actually the ground floor as coming in from the street you enter a lobby with escalators to the ground floor.
The shop is generally very busy, particularly when they have one of their many blue cross sales events, or likewise going on. For me this can be an issue as I often feel quite uncomfortable being jostled about and it can become very warm and unpleasant. However, I do enjoy shopping at Debenhams as you don't have to go far to find the things you are looking for and the all the high street stores under one roof mean you don't have to get soaked going from store to store. You could potentially conduct your entire shopping trip under one roof.
Like its many escalators, Debenhams has many ups and downs, however I would recommend it as a first stop for a shopping trip as it has the potential to be the only stop on occasion. From lingerie to nail polish and kettles to Wii games, Debenhams does it all.
Also Debenhams do a wedding list so you can point your guests in the direction you'd like them to head and let them know what you already have.
Summary: Potentially a one stop shop.
