Advantages: nice products, cheap

Disadvantages: not for the lazy, unskilled, or impatient

Ikea is to d.i.y. what C&A was to clothing, a cheap alternative to everything else and yet still looks quite nice but is still open.

First of all lets start with the general idea if you are not familiar with ikea (where have you been living?!?!?) it is simple you buy furniture that you assemle yourself, perfect for all the budding hany andys out there. The stores are large and hold all household gear you could ever need and it all looks vewry nice and is a fantastic place to go if you have the time or patience.

I have time but patience i am sorely lacking in and as for my D.I.Y Capabilities well i get hot flushes just looking at a screwdriver (No funny comments) my only chance for any kind of grade in woodwork was for my teacher to do all my practical work for me and even then i still only got an F.

Customer service is not very high up on ikeas list of importance but this is not because of lack of staff but the fact that they must get trated so badly to be so miserable, the high level of apathy is second to none the all look as though they have been recruited from the samaritans and i am sorry for being old fashined but a smile costs nothing.

The products are great and the layout and system of the store is fantastic and if you, unlike me, have the skills needed then this ia a great place to shop, if you can bare the long ques and procrastinating staff you will love the end result as i have too, but if you were to ask me if it was worth it my answer would have to be no not really not with the hastles that we have had, deliver probs light fittings and close to being killed by a faulty product this has not been an expirience.

Welcome to dooyoo - which store was it? Ive had no problems apart from it being ridiculously busy. They keep costs down by making you take it all home yourself - so i can understand the delivery charge. As for lightbulbs - not every lightshade can be made to carry the exact same size bulb. It's not the easiest thing to keep track of, when you consider how many items Ikea carry!

I agree with huddro I'm afraid.
By their own admission their service is minimal to keep costs down.
I love Ikea myself!

Let me know if you add to this op, and I will be glad to re-read and re-rate.

I'd advise you to take some time to read other ops to see what goes down well.

Sorry to rate your op su but you do not tell us about the store you just complain, there is no balance in your opinion. As for moaning about selling light bulbs that do not fit certain items .... all shops then are guilty of this what should they do just sell one type of light and one type of bulb!
