Advantages: Too many to mention, see text, Helpful staff
Disadvantages: discontinued ranges are so cheap, they sell out quickly, Too cheap, so you always buy more than intended
For those of you not fortunate to live near Colchester in Essex, which is where my local Glynn Webb store is based then sorry. I am not aware where other stores are based, but if I were you I would certainly find out. This store is primarily a DIY store, but does not stock all the perfierals of a large B&Q or Wickes (i.e. power tools, handles, etc). If you are looking to decorate your house on a budget, with out compromising on style then this should be your first port of call. Talking about Ports of Call, the wallpaper designed by Jeff Banks I mean. One of theshortly to be discontinued ranges, which I have had my eye on for quite a while, was selling in B&Q for £6.99 a roll, borders at £5.99. When you need a lot of wallpaper you are talking about a lot of dosh. Glyn Webb - £1.99 a roll but no borders - no problem. The big borders, named as such because they are 6 inches wide are on sale at just 25p each. They come in a choice of 6 or 7 colours and as they are plain, or with just a silver edge they match ideally with most of the paper on sale. For the price of 2 rolls of paper and 2 borders - £26.00, you can buy 12 rolls of paper and 8 borders. As the borders are so cheap I picked up 4 of each colour for my new house, well I don't know which colour I will want and if I don't want them all i'm sure someone else will have a use for them. They stock a wide range of discontinued wallpapers from 50p a roll, so don't dither, if you see it buy it. It won't be there next time. They also stock their own make wallpaper, which starts from £2.99 a roll and isn't rubbish. There is a good range, stylish designs and colours and they will reserve it for you if they are low on stock. So if you can't see it ask. Now to the paint. Again huge choice Dulux, Crown and many of the other top names. Latest colours, discontinued colours, big tins, littles tins, you name it they'v
e got it. 6 litres of Crown white emulsion £6.99, can't be bad. 2 1/2 litres of discontinued colours, or shortly to be discontinued (obviously) because they are still on the colour chart, for as little as £3.99 (again Crown or Dulux). Cutains, duvet covers, voiles, lighting, flooring, need I go on. All at great prices. Beds, dining room furniture, bathroom fittings all in store. Two 8 foot patio doors (new house again) - no problem. Beautiful sculptured voile cream or white for just £14 for each set of doors. With spring just around the corner they are just starting to get in a new stock of garden things, pots, benches, etc. Looks like i'll be back again next week. So if like me you are about to move house and need your money to go a long way, pop down to you local store, if you have one. If you don't then there is always B&Q I suppose. The store in question is located just off the roundabout on the bottom of Ipswich Road, opposite Hoomebase. Ample free parking and it is open 7 days a week. Certainly worth a look.

- 22/03/02 It will have to be B and Q for me I'm afraid - and they are always out of stock! |
|
- 22/03/02 I've never heard of it before, so assume there's not one around this area.
Suppose I'm stuck with boring old B&Q. |

- 22/03/02 Sounds like my sort of shop, just a bit far for me to travel! |
