Description: Home improvement and DIY super store.

(I mention this to substantiate the point that when it comes to visiting DIY shops, I am something of a reluctant regular.) And in general, I find Focus is cheapest for all of it. I don't know about the quality of the goods - our cheap Focus ... more

Premium Review Focus DIY: Focus is a cheaper option and all-right DIY store (420 words)

While I'm not a fan of big-chain DIY stores I'd say that in my view Focus counts as the least bad of a bad lot. I find it's significantly cheaper in all respects than its main competitor in this area - which is B&Q. Over the years we've been forced to 'do up' the entire house - twice, and so have had to buy - basically everything you can think of that a DIY shop sells at some point. Tools, electrical fittings, paint, screws and nails and bolts, plumbing components, bathroom suites, furniture, protective gear, polyfilla (lots and lots and lots of polyfilla), laminate flooring, carpets, lighting - Christmas trees - BIRD BATHS - the list goes on and on. (I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Focus the store with poor body language (369 words)

When I walk into my local Focus store, I always wonder whether the staff wants a job. Many show a certain body language of discontent and cannot be bothered whether you shop here or not. I wonder if the staff is getting treated properly with incentives or lack of or corporate bullying. As a self employed gardener/handyman, I had about £60 worth of goods, which may not be worth much to the store but count that on a regular basis, would add up. However I made my way to the till where an assistant was serving and chatting to a "Team Leader" when all of a sudden just as I was three feet away, they walked off with me in hot pursuit with my ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Focus DIY- a super store?!? (304 words)
by - written on 25/07/09 (Useful, 37 readings)

Do we really think Focus is a super store? I went today and was bitterly disappointed, yes they did have some great offers but the store was so old fashioned. The floor had those little speckled tiles and the shelves those rather squeaky old metal ones. I went to purchase three things that I had seen advertised in the local paper, when we got there we found one tin of paint that was on offer 3 for 2!! When we asked a member of staff if there were any more in the warehouse it took him about 10 minutes to come back and say "we have one in the back" and then walked off! He didn't even ask us if we wanted it. We went back to him do ask when ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fabulous Focus (326 words)

Focus DIY is the closest DIY store to my home so I often pop in there for bits and pieces when we are working on the house...which has been an ongoing project for the last 4 years now! When I go to Focus it is usually because I have become the runner for the day who runs around getting tools from the shed and things from Focus while my husband tries to do the job! In this situation I have been called upon sometimes 6 times a day to visit the Focus store, every time for a different item. Focus and I are quite well aquainted. Focus sell all the usual things you would expect to find in a DIY store; paint, wallpaper, lighting, plumbing supplies, timber, etc etc. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Focus DIY: Functional and Focused (227 words)
by - written on 03/07/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)
Rating:

Focus is cast in more in the functional category of store, featuring all your expected departments: decorating, furniture, tools and materials, lighting, flooring and so on. In common with the other big DIY retailers this is the season of offers when we are being encouraged to get out, use or work in our gardens or , better still, get the Barbie out and get cooking. Within seconds of entering, I spied a brilliantly priced six-seater garden furniture set reduced from £350 to £149.99. Unlike a lot of the stuff I see in garden centres, this one appeared stylish, solid and well designed. I rated this as one of the best deals going so I promptly purchased ...  Read the complete review
