Advantages: Nice fit, and suitable for smart or casual.

Disadvantages: Colour can transfer to lighter fabrics.

I've been shopping at Dorothy Perkins for a long time, usually for practical things such as t-shirts and jeans, which are reasonable quality. For anything a bit more dressy, I like Monsoon and Per Una. The jeans have been a bit wierd lately though. I've seen a lot of really narrow legged ones, which only suit really slim women, or the very baggy types which always seem to end up on the sale rack. I haven't managed to find a really nice comfortable pair of boot-cut jeans for a while.

Then Dorothy Perkins sent me a £5 birthday voucher (they do that if you've got a store card) and I decided to give them another look and see if I could find that elusive pair of jeans. I noticed they've got a whole range of Gok Wan fashions and although I'm not a fan of Gok Wan I thought I'd give them a look.

I found a pair of black jeans in a slightly ribbed fabric, so they're a bit smarter looking than basic denim. I really liked these as soon as I tried them on. They waistband falls just below the belly button and they sit nicely on the hips without travelling down. I hate those really low slung jeans because as soon as the lycra starts to go, they're travelling down all the time giving a really baggy effect. I've seen loads of women walking around looking like that!

These are 98% cotton and 2% lycra, giving a bit of stretch which helps keep them in shape. They've got a wide waistband with two metal buttons and two back pockets also with metal buttons. The wide beltloops means I can wear a big belt if I want, or just a slim one under a clingy t-shirt. They've got a wider leg than the boot-cut jeans I usually go for, but they go well with ankle boots. Because they're a dense black dye rather than faded out, they're something I can wear for casual or dress up with a nice top. I've washed them a couple of times now and they wash well at 30 degrees, and are quite easy to iron. There is a warning on them though that it may cause colour transfer to light fabrics and furniture, so watch out if you've got a cream coloured sofa! I suggest washing them before wearing them for the first time.

I had a look at the Dorothy Perkins website and there's a section called Gok Wan's World with a jeans guide for different shapes and sizes. It's quite useful and these jeans are on there. They're the wide leg style.

Summary: Gok Wan's jeans are for all shapes and sizes.
