Advantages: reasonably prices, helpful staff
Disadvantages: not good for tall lanky people
Dorothy Perkins is part of the Burtons group. To me Dorothy Perkins are a slightly more grown up Topshop with more sensible sizes. They have the same departments as Topshop, nightware, shoes, underwear and a short and tall section. The clothes are a bit more….sensible I suppose. They are things that you can wear every day. They have both smart and casual clothes and they have a bigger size range than Topshop, who’s going to fit in a size six anyway!! I have found that Dorothy Perkins’ trousers are slightly bigger in the hips. This is probably the normal shape for most people but I am lanky so they don’t tend to fit me very well. I could get two bums in there!!! Their ‘long’ length doesn’t tend to be very long either, too short for me. There are lots of taller people now so perhaps they should start doing things extra long! Everything in Dorothy Perkins is reasonably priced and they reduce things by quite a bit when they have sales. Everything is also laid out well in the shop, different sections are all kept together so you don’t have to wander everywhere looking for what you want. The quality of the clothes is reasonable, not the best but it will last long enough. It will go out of fashion quicker than it will wear out! All of our stores in Cornwall are quite small and things tend to be squeezed in everywhere so that if you take something off the shelf you spend ages trying to get it back in the right place. The changing rooms have lots of space in them, you don’t have to keep your elbows into your sides to save knocking them and there’s big mirrors so you can see all of you and not just the top or bottom bits! For shoes there are always stools to sit on for trying on although these are usually filled with bored men waiting and looking embarrassed because they are next to the underwear section. The staff always seem polite and he
lpful, if you need anything they are always happy to go and look (this is very unusual down here!). They also serve quite fast on the tills so you aren’t queuing for ages. Refunds have always been simple. If you keep your receipt they are happy to give you your money back as long as the item isn’t used. If you lose your receipt they usually let you exchange the item or have gift vouchers. Overall a very normal shop. By normal I mean reasonably priced with every day clothes suitable for a wide range of ages. Not a place to go if you are looking for that special outfit though!

- 19/07/02 I totally agree with you about the sizing as compared to Topshop. I've always preferred Dorothy Perkins on the basis that Topshop assume that you have no hips and nothing bigger than a B cup - I wish...!
A VU op. |
