I was sure that the lower size for Evans clothes was size 14, but having just read the Dooyoo blurb it says that it is for size 16 and above. Oh well.
Evans is a clothing shop that is designed with the curvier ladies in mind. I have to say over the last few years this shop has had an image rethink and it was about time!
This shop used to have the reputation for being for older women and the clothes were a bit shapeless and in my view a bit dowdy. When I had a big job interview in 2002 and my parents said they would buy me a new outfit from here I kind of cringed. After all what would I find in here for a then 22 year old? This time was the first time i'd been in this shop for ages.
However I was pleasantly surprised. Gone were the shapeless tents and in their place was combats, cropped t-shirts, gypsy tops, smart jeans and so on.
Unfortunately I didn't get the job I went for and in 2005 I went for a job interview in Evans as well. I was told that they didn't give you a uniform to wear, but you got a clothes allowance so you could buy things from the shop to wear, which sounded good to me, as I liked the clothes and also I guess it was good advertising for Evans as well. Again I didn't get the job - by this time I sound like i'm unemployable don't I?
This shop is still a firm favourite for me. I think the upper end size they do is size 32, but don't quote me on that. They don't just do normal clothes, they do nightwear, shoes, boots, jewelry and hair accessories. The other good thing is that the shoes and boots have wider fittings if you need them as well.
The only bad thng is that this shop can be quite pricey. Perhaps because they are maybe using more material, but in this day and age and also since a lot of shops offer larger sizes then I don't know why they should have to charge more.
They also have a store card, which is pricy as well but then again store cards are often expensive. My gran had one of their store cards and she was only paying the minimum payment and because she also had payment protection then of her £20 payment only £1.40 was going to the debt, so it would have taken about 40 years to pay off. Since she wasn't in the position to pay it off completely I convinced her to pay it onto her credit card, as she had a 0% transfer and 0% interest for 6 months and she was able to clear it this way.
A great shop that you can get a whole outfit out of, but to be honest you probably wouldn't have any change out of £100!
