Advantages: Vast range of modern plus size clothes to choose from
Disadvantages: Can be pricey and some designs don't suit the fuller figure
Evans is one of the main high street shops that produce clothes for plus sized women. Their sizes range from a size 14-32, and they also do a petite, tall, maternity and wedding range. They also provide shoes that come in different widths and accessories that include jewellery that will fit the more curvy woman comfortably.
I have been shopping at Evans for 13 years to be exact. It is a shame that it is still hard to find plus size clothes then normal size ones (though not as difficult as it used to be) and luckily there are lots more shops that stock bigger sizes now. But Evans was one of the first and best places to do this. Some of my favourite clothes that I have are from Evans and I still buy clothes from here but over the years I have been buying slightly less and the main reasons are the price and the design quality.
I now wait for the sales to get the clothes I have had my eye on as I have found that their prices are now less affordable then they once were . Their sales are great and the markdown in price is well worth the wait.
The problem that I have with the quality is the cut and the design. I am around a size 22 in general, but clothes I have from here range from a 16-24, so I find it very difficult to buy online as I'm unsure what size will fit me properly. The shop solely caters for the plus size woman so everything has been created with that in mind, but I do think that with some items, this has been forgotten. The problem with the style of the clothes here, is that though there are a lot of great designs created for the plus size woman, there are those that have been created for a size 10 and have been scaled up. What looks amazing on someone of a smaller frame and size, doesn't mean it looks good on a 16+ lady. As someone who wants to hide her "bingo wings" strapless and very short sleeved tops are a definite no and at Evans there seems to be quite a few tops that do not have a suitable sleeve length that covers more than just the top of my shoulder.
Enough of the grumbling. As with everything there are disadvantages and I have addressed these now, but Evans does have some great advantages. You can get everything you need from here clothes wise - tops, trousers, skirts, coats, knitwear, dresses, shoes, underwear, swimwear and accessories. Their clothes are very comfortable and they last long and wash well (I still have tops that I purchased years ago). There is a great range in store so lots of different styles for different age groups and tastes. As with most plus sized people, you don't want to display your tummy, so longer tops are better then short tops and I have to say that at the moment Evans have produced some great length tops that do cover bum, tum and hips. The lingerie range has basic designs to sexy lacy numbers, and the cup sizes go up to a large size, though (sorry to grumble again) I have only found in the actual shops the cup size to go up to an F, whereas on-line they do go bigger. They do a wide fitting shoe range which provide extremely comfortable shoes and you can choose which width is best for you.
Even though it does have its disadvantages, Evans is still a great shop and it is good that there is a place on the high street that caters only for the plus size lady, but some of these disadvantages need to be sorted out so it can continue in being one of the best places to go to for the more voluptuous lady.
Summary: Evans has a great choice of plus size clothes, but could be better.

- 12/06/09 I really wish they did a similar type shop for size six and under...half of the time people of the much smaller sizes end up in children's clothing... |
