Advantages: Good choice at reasonable cost.

Disadvantages: Crowded rails, some dubious fashions.

If you are size 16+ and can't afford to, or do not want to spend a fortune on clothes, then Evans is your only choice of fashion shop in my area.

They have done a lot to modernise their shops over recent years, they are light and bright with lots of pale wood and the changing rooms are roomy with plenty of space to hang clothes and a chair.

Prices are reasonable, for example an average of £35 for a day dress. The choice of skirts and tops is quite extensive. they have recently started stocking shoes in larger sizes which is brilliant news for tall ladies with big feet, like me!

Things I think Evans need to try harder with include:-

Quality...the manufacture and material is quite often of dubious quality, and in fact I took 2 dresses back last week as the material at the seem just frayed into a large whole...very embarrassing indeed!

They should try and be pro-active with their stock. In my local store there are always loads of size 16, 18, 20 and few size 26, 28, 30. When you ask why this is, you are told the larger sizes are the most popular and they sell our very quickly....so order more large sizes please!

Some of their styles are exceeding un-suitable for a larger figure! Of course we should all be free to where what we like, but some of their print fabrics mean you end up with a big flower print on each boob and one on your bum...good for target practice maybe...but NOT flattering!

Many Evans dress styles have had a tie belt since the 70's, and the style has simply not changed. For those of us with big bums, the bow at the back sits there on your bottom, emphasising your shape....the shop assistants say "everyone cuts off the belts"....well if that's the case, why make them with a belt in the 1st place???

The display of skirts and tops is simply awful! To look through the racks of skirts and trousers which are tightly packed together, you have to stand with your head
buried in loads of blouses and tops which are hanging up above them...stuff falls off hangers, you get hot and bothered and it's almost impossible to see what size garments are there.

Things Evans are good for include:-

They are very good for refunds and exchanging goods, even if you don't have your receipt, I assume this is a general quality and not limited to my local stores.

They have a very good phone line where they can find the garment you want in the size you need, and get it delivered to your local store.

They have introduced a lot of more fashionable and sexier clothes in the last few years, their bras, pants and suspender belts are as pretty and feminine as those available anywhere.

I find the staff (generally) very helpful and friendly.

Lots of us large ladies have little choice about where we shop for clothes, I am pleased that Evans is striving to improve things for us...they still have a fair way to go, but they are at least trying...I recommend them.

After having a baby, I seemed to of gained a few extra pounds.
So being invited to a wedding, I needed a new outfit.
Went to Evans for the first time and the clothes are great so are there prices, but the shop assisants I thought very rude.
I got the impression because I wasn't the higher range of clothes size.
So you Evans assisants chill out be nice.
