Advantages: good choice & competitive prices.
Disadvantages: you need transport
I really wish that the nearest Farmfoods wasn't quite so far away from where I live - it's quite a walk to the bus stop & as I don't drive it means a £6 taxi home. Unfortunately they don't offer a delivery service or online shopping facility so I pop in sometimes just to buy a few bits as I can't carry much heavy stuff. The other problem is that they close at 5.30pm to tie in with the surrounding shops but they are open Sundays.
It's a shame because they often have some great deals on frozen good such as legs of lamb, vegetables, ice-creams, pies, fish, pizzas, drinks etc & sell their own brand of goods as well as the better known ones such as Young's, Chicago Town, Bernard Matthews, Weightwatchers etc.
I pick up things I can easily carry back on the bus such as biscuits, crisps, teabags which are usually cheaper than our nearest supermarket which is Iceland.
Our local store is well set out & has plenty of room in the aisles even though they use those huge trolleys with sticks on the end! It's easier to look around here even when there are buggies & wheelchairs (unlike Iceland). Everything is clearly marked and has always been well stocked even near Christmas.
The staff, in my expereience, have always been helpful although the shop is generally busy whatever time you go & although the queues look large they seem to diminish pretty quickly.
I've never been offered a packing service but this is easy enough to do as Farmfoods' plastic carrier bags are very durable & a generous size which means I can use them over & over again.
To rub salt into wounds they occasionally send large glossy leaflets which picture their latest offers & enclose coupons eg £2.50 off a £25 shop/ £5 off a £50 shop (sometimes these are for sale on Ebay by the way). I took advantage of 2 of these offers before Christmas which more than paid for my taxi as I did a huge shop & saved around £15 when I worked out what it would have cost me elsewhere.
They often stock items I find hard to find elsewhere eg oak smoked haddock (£2.95 for 500g), tuna steaks (750g for £4.50) plus diced swede (1kg for £1) & sliced mixed peppers (500g for £1).
You know when you sometimes do a 'big shop' & then find you've actually not got anything in fo dinner? well I've never had this problem when I've been to Farmfoods for some reason as long as I've managed to buy potatoes etc from the market next door.
I have the feeling that Farmfoods is seen as the 'poor relation' of supermarkets but, in my opinion, it's well worth popping in to have a look around as, like me, you may well be surprised at what's on offer.
summary
