Shortly after purchasing the ELLEN red hide dual and triple sofas from the Tees-side branch of FV marks and stains began to appear for no apparent reason. Initially, according to the FV this was due to the hide producing, 'wait for it' "Spew Marks and Fatty Liquors". After further complaint and another visit from FV it was concluded that the marks were actually as a result of the sofas not being stain guarded. When we explained that we had paid £200 for the stain guard plus insurance FV stated that the treatment was our responsibility and that we should have done it ourselves upon receipt of the furniture. When asked with what, he related to a kit that came with the sofas that we interpreted as being for maintenance as opposed to the full treatment. Never did we expect that after spending £200 that we would have to indulge in DIY. Furthermore, the aerosol that was provided is only good for 50 square feet which in no way is enough to treat the two seater never mind both of them. Also, even if there was enough and we did apply it the guarentee would probably be invalid given that in the event of problems the likelyhood is that someone would state that it had been applied wrongly.
The requirement to apply the guard ourselves was never mentioned as there would not have been a purchase if it had.
Now after a month since writing to them on the above without a response I am about to write to them again with the threat of contacting trading standards and the media.
Summary: I intend to take this as far as necessary in order to achieve satisfaction

- 20/01/09 I have the same 'ELLEN' 3 piece suite from FV, same thing has happened to mine, we were sold the suite and the same policy under the promise of guardsman coming out to clean it, 'call them out every week' the salesman told us !, what a joke, guardsman cant clean it at all, offered us £900 compensation, then yesterday we were insulted by FV calling to offer us 25% off if we want to replace it !, what a joke, we only put the claim into guardsman to come and spot clean it when it was only 5 months old, what type of monkeys do they take us for??, we are taking legal action now. |

- 27/12/08 i dont know who this guy was that told u that its because it has not been treated but hes talking rubbish! its a full analine leather. very soft and easy to stain even the oil from your fingertips could stain it. any sofa with this type of leather on it will be the same. the 200 u spent is for a 5 yr care plan againts spills,stains rips and tears, the kit u get with it will condition the sofa, it wont prevent anything |
