Advantages: Good service, stock levels and reward scheme
Disadvantages: Poor trade in prices.
Game, formerly known as Electronics Boutique in my town of Doncaster, is my first choice for offline computer and video game shopping. Doncaster is a market town and thus has lots of traders trying to undercut established high street outlets like Game and Gamestation but, although they generally do, I find the loyalty reward scheme and returns policy at Game to be far more stable and the stock levels are significantly higher.
Game is a large store in Doncaster and has a vast array of new and old games for just about any console you could imagine going right back to the Sega Master System. My experience of the stock levels at Game is very good. I have never gone in there and they have been sold out of a new game that I want. Sometimes they may be out of second hand versions but that is quite rare too.
The staff at Game are probably the most knowledgeable I have come across in Doncaster and are very helpful too. The whole feel of the store is vibrancy and knowhow. I had one experience where the game I was after was not in stock, so the really helpful member of staff phoned the branch in nearby Sheffield and had it delivered to the Doncaster branch that same day. That was something that has really stuck with me and goes a long way.
The prices at Game, for new games, are competitive but obviously not as cheap as online outlets, but they do reduce these prices quickly after one or two weeks. The prices for used games are really cheap and this is possibly the reason why, on a trade in, you don't get a lot offered. This is my only real gripe with the store and the reason why I will tend to go to a market trader if I need a better return on a trade in.
The peripherals available in store are extensive for each console and these are well priced too. For along time, Game was the only place in Doncaster that I could get Link Crossbow with the Wii Zapper. They seem to be at the forefront of anything new and if they haven't got it they will do their best to get it for you.
I am a Game loyalty scheme member and have saved a lot of money over the years through this. I find the rewards generous and the chances of one of bonuses to be high. This is up there with the Tesco Club Card for reward schemes in my view.
In summary, for games, go to Game.
