Advantages: Great assistance, Quality clothes, Good prices

Disadvantages: GAP kids clothes should be made for adults too!

I really detest shopping, I make every effort not to go and I certainly didn't used to like shopping in GAP. Yes okay the clothes were certainly nice and the sales good too but the stores were cramped, messy and the staff always rushing about everywhere, with no actual time for the customers. Now GAP have changed their look. My closest GAP is the one in Brent Cross and near holidays yes it is still busy, but there are changes. The staff are much more willing to help and find what you are looking for, they even give honest opinions when trying on. The stores themselves are larger and more spaced out now. The changing rooms in the town stores have buzzers in to call for assistance and the mirrors are realistic and plentiful - not the tilted ones that are flattering and so you have to take the items back as soon as you realise how hideous it looks at home!
GAP clothes are very high quality. They are commonly good for what I would call 'the basics', items which you need at the beginning of a season to work around, such as beautiful structured jeans with stitching and soft ribbed sweaters. At the beginning of this season I bought 1 pair of jeans, 3 casual tops, 2 shirts, 1 belt and 3 t-shirts - all of which the rest of my clothes work around. Their t-shirts, although simple, are also fitted and come in various colours. They have also introduced more belts, especially this season, and in town they do a fantastic underwear department. As well as their classic looks they also have a few 'quirky' items per season. For example this season they did cute little jean bags with different pockets on and crotchet knitted tops. I have shopped in the mens section as well and the clothes there match up to the ladies wear too. However it is the kids GAP I love the most. I often sqeeze into the XX-LARGE as I love it all so much! This season they did an adorable suede cowboy jacket with fringing, I just had to have it, unfortunately it soon went back as I realised
that as it was meant for kids it just wasn't fitted enough for me, and so it hung like a bin bag. I think they should make some of the kids clothes for adults or make larger sizes that are slightly more fitted so that teens can wear them - I saw a pair of jeans with embroidered flowers on to, sadly they only went up to age 8.
Overall GAP is a great place to shop, I definitely recommend it.

I think that Gap stuff is a bit overpriced. As far as ethics go, most High Street chains have the same sorts of practices abroad, but I guess it's only the big firms who's exploiting we get to hear about...

I agree that they have a bad reputation, however they do give a good product and I find it difficult to find shops that are not connected in some way with exploiting the third world people. - take Nike for example

I never liked Gap clothes anyway (all very samey I think) but even I did I wouldn't buy from them for the reasons Mauri mentioned below.
