Advantages: Lots Of Bargains To Be Had, You Are Giving To The Needy
Disadvantages: None
I remember when i was younger my mum used to go into the odd charity shop and i was too embarassed to be seen in one incase one of my friends from school saw me. Now i go into them all the time and am annoyed at myself for being so snobby back then.
If you get the right charity shop, it can be absolutely brilliant - a shoppers paradise! I used to just think it was junk in charity shops but i couldnt believe all the designer items i found after i had a good old rummage. Ive been lucky enough to find a brand new designer Kathy Van Zeeland bag with tags for £4 (these can cost over £100 new!) Ive also founds various pieces from Armani and Versace and lots of lovely retro jeans (most for a pound a pair!)
A lot of charity shops have bargain £1 rails and i think each shop can differ a lot from another. I dont usually go to Oxfam as for a charity shop i think they are quite expensive (I saw a £3 Primark top in one for £5)
As a complete bargainhunter, i always head for the £1 rails first and usually find a few bargains.
In these times of the credit crunch, i have never seen my local charity shops busier. People simply cannot afford to spend huge amounts of money on luxury items such as designer clothes and have more important priorities like children and mortgages to pay for.
I like shopping in Save The Children and The Hospice Shop as they always seem to have a good selection of clothes in each. I also like to visit Help The Aged as i like giving money to the elderly, i think they are the most vulnerable group in society.
Charity Shops are the future in shopping so why not have a look next time you are going past one - not only will you maybe get a bargain but youre money will be going to a good cause :)
Summary: Have A Rummage
