Advantages: Great bargains!!!!!!
Disadvantages: You'll take them all off me!!!
Everybody had told me that you could find the most amazing items in a charity shop - i am afraid i had never been convinced! - Always thought that if someone had got rid of them then it really wouldn't be a lot of use to me! - I was however amazed at some of the things that people had donated! Since i started visiting them regularly, about two years ago i have found and bought many useful items!More about them later!
The thing i find about shopping in charity shops though, is the feel good factor! Normally you go shopping spend a bit of money and feel guilty. Go to a charity shop, spend a bit of money and then kid yourself that you only did it to help the less fortunate people in the world! - also you get a good piece of clothing / product at a very reasonable price!
I don't actually know why i am saying all this - i am actually a bit worried that all dooyoo customers are going to take all the bargains before i get to the store! hence the warning at the top! But i feel it is my moral duty to increase the custom in the charity shops!
I have actually worked in a charity shop for a short time while my children were growing up! - i thought i should give something back to the places that had given so much to me. And it is more amazing when you work in the shop you wouldn't believe what you can get and what people give away! -but the way i look at it is their loss is my gain!
Anyway while working and visiting charity shops as i said earlier i have picked up many bargains. The most noticable must be the suit that i picked up! i got a suit for only £10 and it was in perfect condition! i have also picked up many books by a variety of authors for a fraction of the publishers price. In the larger shops, there is also a large range of childrens toys! - could stop all those christmas debts mounting up!
I hope this was useful - is difficul to find balance between telling enough and telling too
much! i will just finish with one hint :- the best bargains are always at the back of the shelves/clothes rails!

- 27/04/01 I never do what I'm told! Charity shops: I find that the best things are often hijacked by friends of the staff. I always go round them as I collect teddy bears & postcards. Kay |
