Advantages: Really, really great staff, loyalty card, reasonable range
Disadvantages: Range limited to one brand for some products
I regularly visit the Manchester store of General Nutritional Centres which is located opposite Aldi in the Manchester Arndale Centre.
Product Range
The staple of GNC's product range is protein/bodybuilding/fitness supplements. I can't comment on the range as I don't use them, but they do appear to have several brands and several different sizes of tubs for each item. They also stock a small, but very representative range of homeopathic and aromatherapy remedies. However, what I use the store for is their range of free from and health food products mainly. Here the range isn't as wide as other health stores such as Holland and Barrett, but you should be able to find what you need, though there may only be one brand available.
Store Layout
The staple bodybuilding supplements are situated at the front of this long, narrow store. The homeopathic and aromatherapy treatments are central, with foodstuffs mostly near the back. Though there is a lot of stock in a very small place, it is highly organised and it is always easy to find what you need. They have three fridges within the food area, though one has always been broken when I am there and I think this probably impacts on the product range.
Price
Prices seem representative of similar products in other high street stores for the items I've purchased. They have a loyalty scheme where for a £10 subscription, you can get a 10% discount on all purchases and access to special discounts.
Staff
This is where the store really excells. The staff recognise familiar customers, are friendly, and most importantly of all are really interested in the products they sell. They ask about items you're purchasing and can easily give feedback, though not all from personal experience on items if you ask for help.
Summary: The best customer service I've come across
