Advantages: Lots of varied items.

Disadvantages: A lot of walking.

The Gloucester Antique Centre is located in a restored Victorian warehouse in the Historic Docks area of Gloucester.

Within the centre there are over 100 antique dealers selling an enormously wide variety of items including furniture, jewellery, clocks, porcelain, collectibles and every other type of item that you would expect in a very large antiques centre.

The centre is spread over 5 floors, with each floor split into many little shops that you can wander in and out of and browse around the huge selection of items. Most of the shops are unattended so you do not feel pressurised into buying anything, although there are plenty of staff about if you require any help or information. There are also many CCTV cameras to protect the seller’s property.

On each floor there is a member of staff at a till where you pay for anything that you have bought on that floor. We found most of the prices were reasonable and the people very friendly and helpful. They seem to have got the balance just right of leaving you to browse, but being ready to help you if required.

There is a licensed restaurant on the first floor of the centre where they sell a good variety of meals and snacks. The meals we had were all about £3 - £4 and very tasty and freshly cooked. The restaurant seats about 50 people and has waitress service.

The centre is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Saturday and 1.00pm to 5.00pm on Sundays.

We have now visited this centre on a number of occasions and each time spend about two hours browsing around and buying a few bits. One bit of advice I would give you if you are planning a visit is to start at the fifth floor and work your way down. On our first visit we started on the ground floor and by the time we were climbing up to the fifth floor our legs were really beginning to ache. There is a lift for anybody who requires assistance.

This centre is not just for enthusiasts, but has such a wide sel
ection that there is something of interest for anyone who enjoys browsing around antiques and collectibles.

I would certainly recommend a visit.

Sounds wonderful and as I pass through Gloucester several times a year I may just pop in there next time.
