Graham Tonge is the professional based at Frodsham Golf Club in you've guessed it Frodsham in Cheshire. He has been based at the club for more than 25 years. He provides golf lessons for anyone that wants them but his forte is custom fitting golf clubs.

He has spent much of that time researching and producing golf clubs tailored to the individuals golf swing. He has filled a niche in the very competitive golf market and there are few other custom fit clubmakers in the UK, although it is possible to get off the shelf clubs custom fit to your swing at places such as American Golf.

The difference between these which use standard Taylor Made, Calloway, Yonex, Ping etc clubs and alter the loft and lie to suit and Graham Tonges custom fit clubs is that Graham makes clubs with his own brand name. They carry his name and logo: the heads are made from the highest quality materials with a choice of steel or graphite shafts. He takes specialist advice from his dad who works in his workshop and is a qualified metallurgist ( A metallurgist examines the properties and uses of metals and alloys, such as iron, steel, aluminium, nickel and other non-ferrous metals) Graham's mum also helps out in the business by looking after the professional shop, whilst Graham and his father get to grips (get it!! pardon the pun) with the golf lessons, custom fittings and making of the clubs. Graham caters for gents, ladies, left and right hand players, and provides woods, irons and putters all made using the latest head technology. His range has performed well against other leading brands with several county players, Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire professionals using the Graham Tonge range.

All works are carried out in the workshop, and Graham and his team cover all sorts of repairs as well as clubmaking from standard re-gripping and breakage repairs to the more specialist work such as loft and lie alterations. Graham can custom fit you with clubs from his own range or custom fit clubs that carry a brand name, keeping golf professionals sponsors happy at the same time!
One speciality of the team is re-shafting existing clubs or blueprinting as it is called in the field. With this service, the clients swing in the nets: checking the load you put on the shaft along with clubhead speed. This process then allows Graham to assess your swing and chose the best shaft for it.

Many people have off the shelf drivers for example reshafted with a top of the range shaft, perfectly suited to their individual swing.

When you arrive at the golf club for an assessment which is situated in a very picturesque part of the Cheshire Countryside you are given a full hours assessment on the range or in the golf net situated at the back of the clubhouse, Graham does all the assessments himself and gives you a very personalised experience. He is a lovely sociable person, perhaps his only fault is that he is a die hard Manchester City Fan...well someones got to be haven't they!!

Custom fit clubs will improve the swing of any player whether a low or high handicapper and I would truly recommend this personalisation to anyone keen on the game.

Graham is associated with the leading shaft and grip manufacturers, and offers a full range of top names ensuring that only the best components are used to build the Graham Tonge Range. Graham Tonge measures clubhead speed in MPH. then he measures the load you deliver to the shaft on the downswing. With this information Graham then calculates the correct shaft required using the very latest computer programme holding full details of over 1500 golf shafts. The options are soon reduced by sorting them by flex, kick point, torque and material for each player.

Custom fit clubs from the Graham Tonge range are certainly comparable with leading brand names of clubs, and having them custom fit to your exact swing is not as expensive as you might think

Drivers range from £119 for a steel shafted GT driver to £159 for a graphite shafted driver, and a full set of irons are in the range of £449 for graphite shafted ones from the GT range. Obviously these prices are open to fluctuations dependant on the type of shafts etc.

and obviously booking for an assessment is essential. Graham can make up your clubs usually within a few days dependant on availability of materials although his workshop is extremely well stocked and if on the rare occasions that a particular component is not in stock he can usually get it the following day to ensure that there is no delay in your new equipment being ready for you.

Summary: a truly personal experience with the added bonus of golf clubs pefect for you
