Expensive, but would your future wife want a cheap wedding ring? (H.Samuel)

Advantages: Customer care, nice interior, services they offer

Disadvantages: Twice the price of cheaper jewellers

H Samuels is one of the most expensive high street jewellers, but with it comes good service and customer care. I have bought a few items from here over the last few years, and nothing has ever broken or been a problem.

I bought my wife's engagement ring from here - £450 for a platinum ring with a diamond. That ring still looks like new (5 years on), which is more than I can say for my (cheaper) wedding ring.

If it's quality you're after, H Samuels is the place to go, but if you're just after a good price, shop around. I have bought a few items over the years where I'm just looking for a bargain, and have found that H Samuel tends to be twice the price of the cheapest shops (like Half Price Jewellers).

So what exactly are you getting for that mark up? The shop would say it's product quality, but hall-marked gold is hall-marked gold surely? To me, the price increase comes across in fancy looking shops with plush interiors, in top locations, with smarter staff than the average cheap place, but is that worth a 100% mark up? I suppose that's up to each individual.

I know for a fact that staff get a 30% discount, so if you know someone who knows someone who works there, try to get them to use that discount!

The shop also sells a nice range of watches, and offers services like gold polishing, replacement of clasps on bracelets etc etc, which I have used once or twice.

Summary: For special occasions this is the place, but the rest can go to HPJ!
