After reading the negative reviews I had to relate our experience with Harveys.
We bought a dining table and chairs from their Hereford Showroom. From start to finish we had nothing but positive customer care. We weren't hounded or followed around the store by sales people and when we did request help that is exactly what we got.
Everything was explained fully and not once did we feel pressured to buy. At the time of the purchase we were in the process of moving but had no actual date. Harveys kept our dining suite in storage at no extra cost to us. It turned out to be about 8 weeks before we could actually move. They were so understanding and not once threatened us with having to find elsewhere as storage.
The delivery again was brilliant. The guys came and assembled the table as well as taking away every bit of packaging material. They didn't leave until they were satisfied that we were happy.
I personally cannot rate our experience highly enough with Harveys and would not hesitate to use them again.
Have just read some reviews from disappointed customers, but my recent purchase of 6 dining chairs was made without any prior knowledge of the store.
I did not buy online but directly from the store so had the advantage of seeing the product, and trying it out before purchase.
The store itself struck me as being a bit small , on the site of a previous MFI outlet the unit is shared with Bensons beds, who have their own set of staff on site. However at the front of the store I spotted some apparently sturdy and attractive Jaz chairs, some fabric covered, and a couple in a leather look material. Each individual chair was covered in its own particular colour, the result was very effective, as the colours were nice and bright /eg orange/, purple / grey. I already have quite a sturdy teak dining table, these chairs looked good.I preferred the fabric covered ones, but as the leather look ones were considerably cheaper I decided to be sensible and opt for the leather look ones in a nice light cream thus saving myself about £100. As there was an offer at the time, I was able to save another £50 so paid £459 including delivery ie about £76+ per chair.
The sales staff were very pleasant.but not until the deal was closing did I learn that delivery would take about 6 weeks, I was a bit put out about this, as I had hoped to have them for an occasion before then, but didn't want to pull out so said ok.Apparently this is because furniture cannot be stored in store, but has to be ordered direct from the factory.
In all fairness the chairs did arrive on time, and we were phoned twice in advance, can't complain about that, they were flat packed, which somehow I hadn't expected, luckily my husband was on hand to put them up. Even so one or two are a little bit wobbly, but he says they'll settle if not he will fix them (?).I did think the quality of the wood frame wasn't brilliant but then at the price we can't expect polished mahogony. The main things to me are that they really improve the look of the room, they are bright and smart. Also they are comfy.
An unexpected feature is that they are very slidey on our laminated floor. This is due to a plastic footing under the legs.On a carpet this would not apply, I think we are quickly acclimatising to this, but maybe any elderly visitors will need to be warned before they sit down. A label under the seat states that the chairs are fire resistant but do not have a shedule 3 interliner (not sure what that is, sorry)
So, I am not displeased, but have no info yet on how they will stand up to wear and tear.My 2 pieces of advice are do visit a store if possible, some things are just a bit risky to buy online, try before you buy, and only purchase if you or someone you have on hand doesn't mind putting up flatpack furniture, this service may be available but you should check!!
As I'm in a good mood I'll rate Harveys with a 4, but thats only my personal experience....yours may be different
My eighty-three year old mother bought an easy chair from Harveys, they delivered it put the legs on, left and on closing the front door the chair fell over on to it's side. One leg was completely broken the others loose. I called within 15 mins of them leaving it with her, their delivery men knew fine well what condition they had left the chair in stuffing polyethene in the socket and jamming the broken leg in.
I called Harvey's, told them the condition and the fact that it had not even been sat on to be told an independant furniture person would have to come out to examine it.
He stated one leg needed repaired and all four needed strenghtened.
It has been two weeks now of calling them and them not calling back. Understandably she does not want it repaired or a small discount, nor does she want another one of the same, nor does she want to choose something else from them and wait another 12 weeks for delivery.
They refuse point blank to a refund and their customer service is severely lacking in any compassion for any purchaser buying from them. It was delivered unfit for purpose, and not in a satisfactory condition as per the sale of goods act.
I intend to persue this on her behalf, but for the sake of not refunding her money they have lost any future business from our family and anyone we can discourage. Bad Ccompany to deal with.

I'm appalled by the customer care that is offered at Harveys. Our brown leather three seater sofa is just over two years old and has started to peel from one of the seams -much to my disgust. After sending in photographs and filling in a complaints form, Harveys have claimed that it is not a manufacturing fault and have washed their hands of any responsibility. I expected this expensive sofa to last at least ten years and am really disappointed with the quality of the settee and the poor customer care. DO NOT BUY FROM HARVEYS!!
we had a suite delivered the other day whilst they were unloading the suite they knocked my sons motorbike over which fell on to a sea kayak £2000 worth of damage to both items at the time they appologiesed for knocking the bike over and they would report it when they got back. We telephoned the office and told them of the damage which they replied they had no knowledge after a few hours i got a phone call to say the manager is going to call round to look at the damage his answer was yes you can see whats happened here i will inform our insurance company. The next day the insurance company telephoned to say they do not except liability and this claim could take 9 months to sort out 3 people saw this happen including the driver it is now in the hands of our solicitor so be warned dont use them they will lie and tell you aload of crap and wont pay out if they cause any damage to your property
We ordered 2 sofa and a dinning room table and chairs 9 months ago. So far we've not received undamaged versions of either. Three times they have tried to deliver two sofas and on each occasion both have been damaged. On each occasion replacements have been ordered and taken another 3 months to be delivered.
Meanwhile, or table and chairs are sat in a warehouse and Harveys won't deliver as we haven't yet paid the full balance.
The saga has been long and very complicated so I won't do the detail, suffice to say that the customer service has been the worst I've ever experienced. Staff blaming each other, unreturned calls, everything having to be referred to faceless managers, regular administrative errors leading to further delay and anxiety.
I wish we had searched the net before we went and seen the quantity of poor reviews and had picked up that Harveys have far more complaints on BBC watchdog than any other furniture store.
I think we will now have a battle to get our money back, but I won't stop until we do.
Order two sofas, I bought a new build house living room on first floor, went to Harvey's with dimensions and concerns that it would be difficult to get a sofa to fit, was sold a sofa which is really nice and was promised it would come separate so would go upstairs and be assembled, well it came as one, contacted customer service and was told its my own fault if does not fit because it states this in the t's and c's. Hmmmmmmm, how does this work then, they sell me a sofa that they say will fit, then it does not fit, so now it's the customers fault. Oh they have my money. Appalling service, they lie to get a sale and once they have your money they don't care , never ever again will Harvey's get any of my money
My mom has been collecting tea pots for years and it seems silly to have them all hidden away so I decided to buy her a display cabinet to put them all on show.We looked online as it's not that easy for mom to get out these days and she found one that she loved, the Eton one. They promised 4 weeks for delivery but it was in fact 6 weeks, but they did keep us very well informed so we didn't grumble. The delivery men were super, they didn't complain once about the awkward layout of my mom's house, although I sure they must have been cursing us!It looks fantastic and my mom is over the moon to have her beloved tea pots finally on show in a great home.
My partner and I purchased two two seater sofas from Harveys in the summer of 2010. We opted for high backed sofas, no scatter cushions, and a dark brown colour. We took advantage of the interest free credit which seems to be available all the time. This is well worth it. Our sofas were already, apparently, halved in price. For the two it cost under a grand. They are very curvey and of an art deco design, and recently I have seen very similar sofas in other stores for triple the price!!!! Everybody who comes round, including snobs, agree that they "don't look as though they are from harveys"; so you can imagine their surprise when we tell them. Anyway, the delivery was good. They estimated six-weeks but I think they were ready in about five.
Years on they have withstood our dogs. They seem to scratch them but no marks appear! They have maintained their shape well and there are no stains. I give the sporadic vacuum and turn the cushions round every few months and they look good as new. I think harveys have most certainly improved their act.
I've used Harveys on a number of occasions for a coffee table, a set of dining chairs and most recently a new arm chair from their Bedford store. I found the service to be exemplary. In the showroom, nothing was too much trouble - and the staff there spent time and effort helping us make the right selection for our home. Every detail of the order was checked thoroughly and delivery was towards the early end of expectations. The delivery service too was exceptional - polite and efficient. Harveys will continue to be my first choice for furniture purchases - I can't fault them based on my experience.
Their website is very useful. They give you all the dimensions and prices for each item, and also show the full range of products for each item, ie 4 seater sofa, 3 seater sofa, chair, footstool etc...
This made our decision easy as we knew without taking a tape measure to the store that the sofa would actually fit in our room.
The Store is very well laid out with plenty of space to move around and try out each product. There are always staff milling around and they do approach you and ask if you need any help. They don't mind children running around climbing all over the furniture, which is great as my son loves to try EVERYTHING out.
The staff were very friendly and were able to ask any questions that we had. The opening times are also very good.
The waiting time was longer than I would have liked, but I understand the sofas are made to order so it was to be expected.
Communication when it came to delivery was very good. A telephone call to arrange a delivery day with very good time slots. A call on the day of delivery to let us know they were on their way.
Fabulous delivery men who helped me move our old sofa out the way while I kept my son out of the way.
Very stress free in my experience and would most definitely use again.
I have just had my corner sofa delivered (2 weeks later than promised-but these things happen apparently) and i can only describe it as lying on a little bit of heaven in front of my tv.I'm supported when i lay down and when I get up, the filling pops back out again so i know the shape will keep for a loooooong time.so harveys you have been forgiven for delivering late because my sofa is just so darn comfortable and well made.thank you.
I bought a glass top dining table from harveys last year in the summer sale and was chuffed to bits with the price i paid for it. it has served us as a family so well. it has withstood grandchildren banging cups on it and drawing on it, various dinner parties that my wife has hosted and it's still in immaculate condiiton.
I was a bit disappointed with the delay in getting it delivered, it was 4 weeks late, however the customer service team were very apologetic and kept me up to speed with the status of my order.
The delivery men were fantastic and helped me move our old table into the garden as I couldn't do it myself as I injured my knee a few years ago.
I also thought the delivery cost was a little steep, but for the convenience of having something delivered to your home at a time to suit you, was actually very worth it.
I would most definitely use them again when we next need a new item of furniture.
Bought 2 sofas in the sale, spent over £1000, dont know what they're like yet because Harvey's delivery service is worse than useless, Once they have your cash they don't give a damn, 28 phone calls I made today, like talking to a brick wall, Delivery was this morning between 8 am and 11am, I got a call fom the delivery driver asking where I lived, the instructions given at purchase were not on his paperwork, I explained he was 50ft from my flat and told him exactly where it is, I decided to pop home from work so 10 mins later I got home, guess what No sofas! I called the driver, where are you? he said he couldn't deliver because of double yellow lines and I would have to re arrange a delivery. My old sofas had been collected at 8 am and disposed of so now we're sitting on the floor. Goods vehicles are allowed to load and unload on double yellow lines so either this idiot shouldn't be driving or he's scared of rain, the latter is my guess. My wife was watching from the window, no truck stopped outside, the shopkeeper below confirmed this too.
I called every department throughout Harveys and got nowhere, I explained my wife and I and our 11 month old baby will be having dinner on the floor, they don't give a damn! They said when the sofas are returned to their warehouse and put back on their system then they will arrange for the sofas to be delivered at a later date! Through the day and 28 calls 7 of which were cut off or hung up, I got loads of excuses, the driver said there was a junction he would be blocking, the junction is 165 ft away, how big is this truck? he said he tried to call me when he couldnt deliver, er no! no missed calls! by the end of the day and loads of shouting and threatening to broadcast this I finally got a date, instead of sometime in the future they are now delivering on friday, On friday I'm taking time off work, I will make sure those sofas come off that truck.
I will never buy anything from Harveys ever again and I would strongly advise anyone else to stay well clear, I've since found stacks of crap reviews including loads on BBC's watchdog program website. (order number 85230701)
I bought my sofa from harveys 3 years ago now and it still looks like new.
When i bought it all that time ago, i went to my store in blackpool and the staff were just fantastic, so helpful. I know they wanted to make a sale, but it really does help when you feel like the have all the patience in the world for you.
They answered all my questions about the sofa knowledgably, like the quality of leather, the filling of the sofa and also gave me lots of tips on how to keep it looking good.
I was sold a care kit which I wasn't convinced I would need, but I can say, hands on heart that it is a good investment. When you're spending over £1000 in my case, a few extra quid for a care kit to preserve your investment is very worthwhile.
I listened to their care advice and as a result, my sofa still looks like new, some people do in fact think it's a new sofa! Now that's a compliment after this length of time.
