Disadvantages: how much tax is on a pill anyway

I've been checking out prices of vitamins and minerals in one or two different shops.
It seems a lot of money to buy something that is normally present in our diet.
Unfortunately I was dragged up taking vitamins and am sort of superstitious about them, you know, if I stop taking them will my ears turn green and fall off?
