Advantages: Good selection
Disadvantages: Often busy
HMV, otherwise known as His Masters Voice (strange name?) is probably the most well known Music supplier on the high street. Gone are the days of Woolworths and Virgin Megastores therefore HMV is the place to buy from.
HMV is the home to most new releases in film, music and games and is all under one roof. Although a little more expensive than online shops such as play.com it is still nice to go in and purchase an item you want on the same day and actually have it in your hands.
The shop is set out in to different section. Music for instance, is segregated into genres/new releases and then in alphabetical order. This is ideal in most ways as it theoretically it should make it easier for you to find a CD you require, but this is not always the case. I sometimes find that an artist id describe as rock, would be found in the metal section. Or a dance artist in the pop section and often need to ask for help finding it.
Prices are somewhat reasonable for CD's, new releases often being on offer for under £10 and dvds often being on a 4 for £20 offer, though admittedly some of these DVDS are quite shocking!
Hmv also sells things such as accessories for phones/ipods, magazines, posters and things for children such as stickers.
Id suggest not going in with a headache however as the music can often be very loud. The shop can also be very busy especially on weekends and near Christmas.
Should you wish to buy online, they do have a website also if you don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle in store.
