Advantages: cheap pop music.

Disadvantages: atrocious range of stock, more specific items are a rip-off, and often not there, bad service.

HMV is a UK music and video store chain that has been around for quite some time now, monopolizing the media shop market. Whilst the average prices for the products it sells are extremely low, its worth noting that the in-store range of items is absolutely atrocious. Specific sections other than charts generally contain nothing of interest to anyone, and the few recondite items that HMV does sell are always ludicrously overpriced. The shop sells T-shirt and poster merchandise for the most popular bands. There's absolutely nothing here that you couldn't get for cheaper online anyway, even the HMV website itself offers better deals.

The shopping experience itself is a vastly unpleasant one. The horrible supermarket music that HMV pumps into its stores is nothing short of unsettling, and its always blasted at an obscene volume. The service is incredibly impersonal, and buying items from HMV feels like getting them from a vending machine.

This store isn't about music or film. Its all about making money. Its a great place to run in and buy cheap pop music, but if you're looking for metal, jazz or classical, you're better off with somewhere like Music Zone or Virgin Megastores, and better off still with Amazon or Play.com than these ubiquitous and uncomfortable cash-barns.

This shop has absolutely nothing to it and should be avoided at all costs. I really do not recommend this in the slightest, watch out for these greedy rip off merchants.
