Advantages: Save £££'s, variety of products
Disadvantages: the staff aren't overly helpful
Once a week me, my mum and my sister have a walk into out local shopping centre, I say shopping centre but that many shops closed down there recently that is can hardly be called that any more however we do still enjoy having lunch in the little café nearby then having a walk around home and bargain and more often or not we come out with a bag full whether we intended to buy something or not.
I know that some stock varies from store to store but depending on size they all have more or less the same categories of stock most with products that are a fraction of the price that they are sold for in other shops, my local home and bargain stocks, toiletires, medicines, toys, baby products, garden and pet stuff, household cleaning products, knick knacks for around the home, food, drinks, stationary and many seasonal products. Some products are there week in week out other ones once they're gone they're gone so I try to go up the day before I do my Tesco on-line shop and pick up as many of the things as I can in there then just order the things that are left from Tesco. You can't get fresh products like bread or fruit but can save a few pound each week on toiletries, cleaning products and many other things.
MY USUAL BARGAINS - The first section on entering my local home and bargain is the toiletries where I usually pick up a tube of colegate toothpaste that would cost me £1.45 in Tesco but here I pay 99p, ( I could go on and tell you the price difference in a lot of the things I would buy but its probably easier and a lot less boring if I just tell you the things I have found the greatest savings on) a jar of Nescafe which would cost me £4.45 is £2.99, I bought a canisters of Nutrogena cleansing cushions priced at £4.46 in Tesco for £1.99 although they haven't had these in for a few weeks now, and I regularly buy toilet rolls, kitchen roll, crisps, biscuits, pasta, raisins, tin foil and the majority of my cleaning products from there and estimate that some weeks I probably save £10 on my weekly shopping. Oh and sometimes they have decent wine at a good price so I quite often treat myself out of they money I've saved, although I have found the price of the wine can't compare with the offers the supermarkets have sometimes ie; 3 bottles for £10 but if your looking for a single bottle at a nice price then you can usually find one.
They also have quite a good selection of art and craft materials so I shop there to stock up our art box, with glue, glitter and paints etc which with 3 daughters we do tend to use quite a lot of and at least here I can get much more for my money.
My partner likes me to pick up tins of soups and sachets of microwavable pasta meals and other similar things which are handy to keep in the cupboard for if he is running late and needs to grab something to take to prepare at work and they have quite a good selection of things like this, so there is definitely always something there for all the family
SEASONAL BARGAINS - Christmas, Easter etc there are always lots of handy little stocking fillers, Easter gifts, decorations etc which are much cheaper than the bigger stores. I'm not sure about other home and Bargain stores but my local one always seems to have lots of Bratz products which I bought for my nieces at Christmas with at least £4-£5 off the rrp and some with even bigger savings. At Easter I got all the little ones in the family easter bonnet decorating kit's with everything you need including the bonnet for only £1.99 making a nice change from chocolate. They have a smallish gardening section and I sometimes pick up things like ant killer and lawn feed for a very reasonable price.
If you have a home and Bargain near you I would definitely recommend you take a look the only downsides I could think of is that the staff employed in mine are all quite young and sometimes seem more interesting in gossiping than helping customers but saying that the shelves are always well stocked and at weekends especially it can be very busy so be prepared to queue.
Summary: It pays to shop around.
