Advantages: Extremely proficient fitters, great looking units
Disadvantages: You need to double-check every stage - kitchens are complex things!
Apart from a shaky start... because of staff illness we had to deal with 3 different kitchen planners whose quotations were wildly different (£9000 - £13000!) we eventually settled, with a 15% of voucher at £8500 for the framed cream kichen we wanted, including fitting.
We had an older-style fuse box, and on inspection by the fitters, we were RECOMMENDED to change it. However, they didn't mention that if we didn't change it, they would not connect to it. So when they turned up to fit it, it was a bit of a shock that they refused to connect. Needless to say this was a ridiculous situation, and we got the consumer unit changed (privately)rather sooner than we intended to.
However, after that point the fitters were really good. They arrived when they said they would, they were clean and tidy, polite and clearly very skilled, and the kitchen is lovely. The knobs weren't the ones I chose, but that was my fault for not double-checking the order - and what do you know, I like them better! There was a slight fault on the built in AEG oven, which was not Homebase's fault and was fixed by AEG's agent promptly and efficiently - I only mention this because the repair chap said it was a pleasure to see the units and electrical appliances so well-fitted. The final quality inspection seems to have been forgotten, too, after 2 months. I was also a bit concerned to see a dire warning with the cabinets that the surfaces should NOT come into contact with water! In a KITCHEN?! Overall, it has all turned out very well, and it is a a very good looking kitchen, which is well-built and functions perfectly. I would choose Homebase and its fitting service again.
Summary: A good experience - we are happy.

- 21/03/09 Ah then you must surely have those newfangled surfaces, you know, the ones made with jelly! (either that or there be Gremlins!) ;-)
Helpful review, thanks. |
