Advantages: Sales can be good.

Poor old Homebase, when B&Q is doing really well, Homebase seems to be suffering. I actually go to both of these stores as they are convenient for me. The prices in Homebase if you are looking for more 'home items' like lamps, paint, rugs, wooden flooring, wallpaper etc. is not badly priced. But if you want to do some serious DIY, like wiring, plumbing then don't bother, it is far more expensive. I had to go and buy some electrical blocks , when I was doing some work at my Mum's. It was literally 4 times the price of Wicks! They do seem to have sales more often than the others though and then many things are half price. Today lamps are half price, and so are some paints, floor boards have been drastically reduced also. House plants always seem to be reduced, but they don't look too healthy.The stores are bright and cheery though, and the staff are very helpful and sensible, unlike some other places. I don't think the stores deserve to be as quiet as they are though. I hope they manage to survive. Come on Homebase, get some marketing done.
