Advantages: Doesn't break the bank, free home delivery
Disadvantages: Product range
Iceland is best known for selling frozen products and having Kerry Katona as its spokesperson! Generaly this is quite controversial as whilst Kerry has won the Celebrity Mum of the Year award before, she is generally associated with cheap gossip and general trashiness.
In the village where I grew up, we relied on Somerfield and Iceland as those were the only nearby supermarkets. Somerfield closed quite a few years ago and so we relied on Iceland for a lot of our shopping.
Our local Iceland was very thin and narrow, as a lot of them are, because they have rows of big chest freezers and tend to be located in town/village areas so are quite small shops generally.
They stock a range of frozen foods from burgers and sausages to veg to ice cream cakes and general desserts. On the shelves above the freezers they tend to stock things like tomato sauce and ice cream cones. They also have a small section for eggs, milk etc.
As you probably know they do have a very limited range of products, and very few staples. However, their food is usually very cheap (presumably as it's mainly own-brand goods), so it is useful to fill your freezer or buy stuff around Christmas time or for parties. You can get a good sized box of sausage rolls or even a meal for £1. Most of the food is good for occasional use or as a small part of a meal because a surprising amount involves fatty meat or large amounts of pastry.
Shopping at Iceland also requires you to have a lot of freezer space, which I don't, living in a shared house. My mum however loves Iceland. Though she doesn't drive, you can arrange a 'home delivery' to have your goods delivered for free so you can choose your own things instore and have them packed up. This has always been a reliable and friendly service - we wouldn't have got a good deal on a cruise a couple of summers back without the Iceland man telling us about it!
Summary: I like it
