Advantages: Fairly small easy to get around, lots of variety, cheaper bread!
Disadvantages: None really :)
My review is based on our local Iceland in Harlow, Essex.
I go here quite frequently with my sister, as she's on her own during the day and has four children (3 at school) it's impossible for her to push the babies basket and do a full weeks shopping so I am always on hand to help out.
As soon as we arrive at the store my sister goes over to the Home Delivery area (just a little stand with a notebook or something similar on it) and gives them her surname and then advises them that she is doing her shopping now and she normally books a slot for the same day either 1-3pm or 3-5pm, this is about 10am that we are booking it so there always seems to be slots available the same day if you go nice and early.
Once we pick up a trolley (with a massive bar on the right hand side to stop you leaving the store with it) you can begin to browse the aisles. About 75% of Iceland's floor space is taken up by freezers and above the freezers are shelves with canned items in the first aisle, cereals & fizzy drinks in the second aisle and bread down the third aisle.
There is a couple of freezers designated to each type of food: Weightwatchers, Roast Dinner Meats, Chips, Potatoes, Vegetables, Fish, Beef, Chicken, Lamb etc.
There is a lot of choice and there are quite a few brand names as well as Iceland's own brand of products.
I have used quite a few Iceland own brand products now and find their products (most of them anyway) to be very reasonably priced and to taste pretty nice.
They often have offers on and they will have various wire baskets dotted down the aisles with biscuits, gravy, noodles etc which are often pretty good deals (3 packets of Bachelors noodles for £1.00 etc).
I often find myself browsing these baskets more than I do the normal shelves as I know that I've found some good bargains in the past.
There is a lot of choice in Iceland for most items but their bread choices are lacking a little bit they generally just have a couple of expensive brands like Kingsmill but these are priced quite competitively (were cheaper than Tesco last week and weren't even on special offer).
The staff are generally helpful although there is normally only one or two people working the tills and one or two people packing up shopping.
If you have ordered home delivery they will get somebody to bag your shopping up for you as they know how it's packed in the van (Freezer, fridge etc), my sister has stated that this always arrive at the beginning of the allotted time and is always great.
The staff are very helpful there and on a recent trip when I put some shopping under my niece's pushchair I actually managed to leave her raincover on an empty checkout and when I rang them up they popped it in with my sister's shopping, I was very pleased indeed (as was my sister!).
Overall I would recommend Iceland, the 'round pound' value on most items makes it very easy to keep track of what you are spending whilst you are browsing the store, you can generally find most things you need here (with the exception of decent fruit and vegetables - fresh ones anyway).
I have shopped here a few times in the last month or two and I always tempted by their special offers but I find myself coming away having spent less than £20.00 to feed myself and my fiance for a week, bargain!
To be eligible for free delivery you only need to spent £25.00 in store.
Summary: I would recommend giving this a visit when doing your shopping.
