Advantages: GREAT CONVENIENCE FOOD. BEST PLACE FOR PARTY FOOD

Disadvantages: POOR SELECTION OF FRUIT AND VEG AND BREAD

Iceland was one of the first supermarkets to do home delivery. You have to spend over £25. It was also one of the pioneers in making steps towards healthy eating, by eliminating 'hydrogenated fats' from thye ingredients of it's products.

Now granted Iceland is not the greatest supermarket for natural down to earth ingredients you can use for some 'wholesome cooking'. Although I did see a lettuce there once, but it didn't look comfortable and was getting bullied by two jumbo boxes of rice krispies!

No, this place is great for convenience food. Microwave meals and frozen desserts galore! Now over the years the quality of these two main products have certainly got a lot better. Well when I say quality the poor stuff is still there, the variety seems to have increased 'exponentially' and within that, there is some good stuff.

When I go out shopping with 'The Good Woman', no pun meant, but it's a recipe for disaster. She likes me to push the trolley and stick right next to her. That way I don't wonder off like some ' curious merekat' and come back with some stuff that wasn't on the list. YOU MUST STICK TO THE LIST AT ALL TIMES. ORDERS MUST BE OBEYED! She was thinking of getting me some 'shopping reins' so if I do go astray, I'll twang back like a boomerang in no time.

Anyway, there is some good stuff there now and for the time being, I'm quite happy sticking by Joanne because the variety has certainly got my attention. The ready meals all seem to be £1 in price. Fantastic. Now this isn't the kind of diet we should live on as these meals do have a high salt content, but the crazy mad lifestyle that we live today, running around like headless chickens or...... merekats, means we're all wanting to sometimes save a bit of time. So a bit of convenience is good now and then. I recommend the chicken and lamb biriani.... very nice and tasty. Also the chicken and beef curry, all Icelands own brands. The price....£1.

Obviously there will be other similar stuff there to other peoples' tastes.
The dessert section is now overflowing. I like Icelands strawberry, nut ice creams with chocolate going through the cones. In fact they are ' clone cones for cornettos, but........but... just as good. £1 for 6. Excellent.

What also struck me were family sized strawberry and black forest gateaux for £2 each. Delicious!

A four pint flaggon of milk only costs £1. In the other supermarkets you pay at least £1.50

There is also a decent selection of non frozen products in Iceland. Cold meats, tinned products, cereals, the usual tinned stuff. The fruit and veg part isn't great to be honest and it's no wonder that poor lettuce got a 'bit restless'. Nevertheless, they still have some interesting offers worth investigating. They do 3 for the price of 2. Rice Krispies- two standard boxes for £4. Picking the jumbo ones and you'll just be promoting bullying!

Now hold on a minute! Iceland needs to be 'brought down to earth' a bit more..... I'm not talking about it's high line of latitude in the atlas...No that's Iceland the country.
I've done my research here and have been to maybe 4 or 5 different stores. In each branch I didn't see an express till. You know the one...Ten items or less checkout. So if you're getting just a couple of items, inevitably you'll at sometime be behind the people who are shopping for a month with two big full trolley's.

Sometimes they'll let you through and sometimes out of pure spite they'll make you wait... Now and then, you just know not to ask. That's annoying and needs to be addressed.

There's been controversy lately about the 'wonderfully' talented Kerry Katona who was seen on tv advertising Iceland. She had a £1 million contract with the store for those adverts and chucked it all away due to her foolish behaviour. The last one I saw her on was the xmas advert. She was on screen with Jason Donovan and Colleen Nolan.. They all create a wonderful, magical xmas party atmosphere whilst enjoying the delights of Iceland party food. The food did look great but the overall effect gave me nausea and indigestion......I'm sure if Kerry or Colleen swallowed any ' party morsels' they'd be straight into the bog to throw it back up again. Depends on the mood swings. Comfort eating one moment. Fingers down the tonsils the next.

Maybe the same for Jason. He's has a rough ride too and I think he was payed with just left overs. A true pro.

I recommend Iceland but you need to be backed up with another supermarket to get some essentials like fruit and veg and a bigger selection of bread.

Summary: PRETTY DAMN GOOD
