Advantages: Great range and choice
Disadvantages: Have to walk through everything
IKEA is a massive warehouse retailer of furniture and fixtures for the home, the Swedish company pride themselves on resonably priced good quality designs.
My nearest one is located in Milton Keynes on a retai park near the new football stadium and it is very busy especially at weekends that is why I would only visit in the middle of a working week.
When you enter the store you have to go up an escalator to the upper floor, Ikea stores are cleverly laid out to maintain a flow of customers as you almost follow a similar route, this helps manage the numbers but also means you see everything in teh store whether you want to or not, when you see somthing you like if it is a big item you need to note down the reg number and where it is stored in the warehouse part of the store. Initailly you pass through areas set out as rooms and then you enter an area where you can buy smaller household items.
Smaller items such as kitchen wear and decorations are collected from a particular area and large bags are provided, this is where I tend to spend my money as I have only ever bought one item of furnishing from the store and this was a wardrobe which was really good and easy to assemble thanks to the boyfriend and one of his mates.
They also have a restaurant which sells cheap foood and a store selling Swedish food stuffs which is interesting.
Summary: Furniture store

- 07/09/08 Ikea, my idea of hell! Great for furnishing your home cheaply and has some really useful storage ideas but if I need the other half with me to help load stuff I have to bribe him with beer and pout up with 'the face' for the whole time we're in the store. My local store is open until midnight - go late if you don't want to feel like cattle! |
