Advantages: Well priced, good quality
Disadvantages: none
Ikea is a huge furniture store chain, originally from Sweden but now stretches around the world being one of the most popular suppliers of flatpacked furniture.
All the Ikea stores are designed around the same principle layout, where the shopper walks around the store following a pre-layed walkway with arrows marked on the floor to ensure a specific path is followed. It is a very cleverly constructed design which sees that each customer walks around the whole stor, picking up impulse purchases along the way. The walkway passes through the different sections of the store, each with a separate theme, whether it be lounge, bedroom, office or kitchen furniture, to name but a few. There are also decorative items such as lamps, pictures, plants, cutlery, etc. scattered around for people to pick up as they wish.
The flat-packed furniture is collected at the end of the walk-through, where a self-service policy is employed. The furniture seems to have a reputation for poor construction instructions and quality, but in my experience, the instructions are all in pictorial format rather than written words, which are pretty simple to follow. Once built are pretty sturdy and solid and compared to other flat-pack furniture, namely Argos, is of much much better quality.
The restaurant in Ikea is also well known and is the main reason why some people I known go and visit the store. They offer meals such as swedish meatballs and fish and chips for very reasonable prices. They also have a hotdog stand in store which offers large hotdogs for under £1 which taste great!
Overall Ikea is a fantastic store from which you could decorate your entire house for a very reasonable price. They almost always have what your after in stock on the day so that you don't have to wait for delivery. It has a massive selection of items in store and provides heplful services such as kitchen designers.
Summary: on of the best furiture stores around

- 14/09/09 Sadly the nearest Ikea to us is about 100 miles away so the petrol would negate any savings. |
