Advantages: Great if you live close by.
Disadvantages: Nightmare at busy times.
I used to live within a 10 minute drive to Ikea at Warrington, and if you didn't go at peak times (like the weekend ) It is a great store to browse around and steal ideas and inspiration for your own home. The first time visit is probably a bit confusing or daunting as the customer is herded around an upstairs maze, cleverly designed so you get to view everything. Half way round is a smoking and vending machine booth if you are getting tired. Downstairs is what they call the market place and if it is busy this can be bedlam, with plenty of trolley snarl ups. Again, to the first time or occasional visitor this may seem a nightmare. Nearer the tills is a bargain corner with ex display items or surplus stock at bargain prices. ( however sometimes a really badly marked item will be slightly reduced and an almost perfect item will be a fantastic bargain ) The tills are fine off peak, but again a nightmare at weekends. A snack bar and food are located at the exits, with very cheep ice creams and hotdogs. There is also a reataraunt, ( sweedlishly themed) kids ball room, and cinema, and good quality toilet facilities. I hate the way you can't take trolleys to your car, and have to take the car to the trolley, fine if your with someone, but a pain if you are on your own. There always seems to be a big cue at customer services, but they have a good returns policy. Ikea have announced an expansion plan in a bid to cut prices and cut cues, good news for the consumer who loves Ikeas products. Until then avoid peak times if you want a stress less expierience.

- 11/07/00 Yes the snarl ups are bad, I could use a back route over the m62 bridge at burtonwood, but still never went at peek times. |
