Advantages: Something for everyone at fantastic prices.
Disadvantages: Usually a distance to travel, large queues.
I love this store. I know it has such a bad reputation but I am convinced that about 90% of that is because it is a trek and a half round the shop itself. You then have to contend with all the queues....but have the critics ever questioned why the queues are so huge? It is because the products they sell are so fantastic! Everytime that I have been to Ikea I always end up spending more than I aimed to. I know that is the general idea behind the layout of the store, after all the owners don't make you go through the whole thing just to buy a light-bulb without reason, but I never regret buying anything, whether I intended to or not. The produts they stock are excellent quality and remarkably good value. Compared to the other furniture stores we have, Ikea prices are always incrediably competitive. The style is original and bang-up-to-date, and even if you do not like the minimalist look in your living room, you can always find something that fits in and brightens up the darkest corner. The biggest test that Ikea had was my mum. She refused to believe that the place or the stock that it carried was anything more than tat. She kept up with this view for over a year until we finally begged her to go. She went and she looked and she smiled at what she saw. Since then she has been back at least 4 times and always buys something on each visit. All it needs is one look around and you too will be hooked into the biggest shopping trend this decade.

- 24/08/00 I think IKEA is brilliant! We managed to kit our house out with their furniture in one go and when you are newly married with not much money its perfect. I like it because the wood is real, not chipboard or MDF! |

- 16/08/00 I dread going to Ikea, and only go on rare occasions, when my daughters want a visit: it is too far away, and requires something to transport the shopping home in.
Yes, it is the endless queues and long trail that makes me dread any visit. |
