I only really frequent Jane Norman a handful of times a year and this is when the sales are n he are my thoughts.
All of these are very small with wooden floors and the changing rooms barely concealed in the middle of the store and there are always sale items at the front on rails and new items at the back. There are so many items if clothing here they always feel very cluttered and it can be a bit of an effort to pick that dress. The staff are fairly indifferent neither rude nor particularly friendly and cheerful.
As most people will probably be aware Jane Norman has quite small sizes and everything MSG be tried on and picked very carefully. Also some of the clothing can appear a little tacky for instance I own a 'dress' from there that is just about acceptable with pair of thick jeggings how this could be worn with bare legs I have no idea.
The clothing is not of brilliant quality and can come in holes quite often, so the best way to avoid this I to wash on low heat and hang up in the wardrobe as oppose to flooding up into a draw.
Items I the sale normally go for between £5 and £10 but as other reviews have highlighted items can not be returned. The none sale items are much more expensive with some dresses hitting £50, which considering the quality is really not worth it it.
Wait for the sale and grab a bargain.
Jane Norman's Ealing store is my local store.I usually go there and check store to see if I can find anything that suits me.I often find something for me.It was about quarter to 6 and i was rushing.I've seen tops on sales I liked them but was not so sure to buy before i try them on.The girl behind the till encourage me and said to me I can take them back if they don't fit me.She did not put my stuff in the bag wanted give them on my hand just like that.I asked her to put them in the bag.She said they had very busy day and their bags run out.Anyway in the end I insisted and she put them in the plastic bag.I got home and tried them on.One of them was too tight and the other was a bit big for me.I decided to take them back.I went there today and checked all sale items.I could not find my size and wanted to return them.I found out that sales items are non refundable. This is their customer policy.Nobody did not tell me this before and i did not see anywhere written about this in the shop. They only write this on the receipt. If I knew sales item are non refundable.I would not rush to buy it.Why they did not warn me before I buy. Also I realised today they still do not give bags. The woman who bought two items was trying to squeeze them in her bag. They have very poor customer service and their staff are so rude!!!!I got really annoyed about Jane Norman's return policy.I was very loyal jane norman customer. From now on I will never buy anyhting from them..I was wondering why they close down some shops. Now it makes sense. This must be some kind of weird company policy to get away from tax.Jane Norman lose customer with this attitude.
It is no surprise to me Jane Norman is closing down. Not only have I had a shocking interview there (I will e posting a further review on that issue), but I have also been a customer there.
The staff are rude and arrogant, every time I go into my local store (which isn't a lot now) I am looked down upon. There was one instance, when I tried on a size 10 item (I am a 10-12), which did not fit. I asked the fitting room assistant to get me one size up, and they gave me a size 14 and, I quote, said: "I think this is more your size." In which was insulting, as I am only a 12 in H&M, and even if I was a size 14, it was an extremely rude comment!
Another time when I decided to take back a pair of shoes as they didn't match my outfit, the sales assistant refused me a refund or exchange. Refusing a refund is not illegal, but an exchange is. After asking to speak to her manager, the sales assistant claimed the manager was not in. I told the assistant I would not be leaving the store until I at least got my consumer right of a refund. Which, she decided to give me, after 20minutes of trying to work out how to do it on the till. After leaving the store, I noticed on the receipt it says the usual thing of "If you are unhappy with your purchase, please return the goods to us in a re-sellable condition for a full refund."
Appauling shopping experience.
I usually used to avoid Jane Norman at all costs because the price, to me, seemed quite expensive! However, I gave into the temptation when I saw a beautiful long jumper top in the window, priced at £32 and I have never turned back.
The quality of clothing is high - I have some of my jumpers and dresses from there which I have had for a few years now and they STILL look as good as when I first bought them. If, like me, you hate spending lots of money on one item, I really would not worry as they WILL last and a lot of their tops and jumpers can be worn in so many different ways!
I have to disagree with some of the reviews which slate Jane Norman's customer service as I have never had a problem once. The people seemed very friendly and are always really helpful. I bought a dress in the sale, which upon buying, they said I could not bring back to exchange or refund. However, after I tried it on at home it was a bit on the small size. When I returned, I asked if I could exchange it and they were more than happy to help!
One thing JN has got wrong , however, is the sizing. I am usually a size ten, but when I shop there I have to get at least a twelve in the tops and particularly the dresses, as the ten seems more suited to a small size eight! But this is not really an issue, so long as there is a bigger size available!
The style of the clothing can be quite varied. Some of it can be, I admit, quite dissapointing and a bit cheap looking which is obviously something you do not want if your spending quite a bit on it! But on the whole, most of the clothing is very Sophisticated. The jumpers and tops are long and they tend to be clingy - not good if you have a bit of a wobbly tum! Even so, there are still tops and jumpers which are more "floaty" and look great on; I have one white batwing top which I wear when I am having a bit of a fat day so there is always something in their which will flatter everybody! There are dresses fit for every occassion - they sell typical going out girls dresses when you want to hit the town, but they also had a collection of "posh" floor length dresses - perfect for prom/balls.weddings. As i have mentioned before a lot of the clothing tends to be quite clingy, but the whole idea of Jane Norman clothing is to "embrace" the female figure - as they say on their webite!- and I think that so much of the clothing does this. The long jumpers, for example, tend to be quite low cut and the material joins at the middle - this is perfect for someone who is quite curvy; the open top draws attention to the chest area, whilst the longer length gives the impression of a much slimmer middle.
It is not just the clothing which I love, there are a huge variety of different bags, so there is something for everyone. Whether you are looking for an small evening purse or a day to day handbag, its all pretty and reasonably different!
Overall, I highly recommend just visiting, even if not buying, Jane norman and browsing the shop! The staff are friendly, helpful and the shop itself is beautiful. The only thing I would beware of is the sizes! Other than that, the clothing is flattering and of high quality. :)
Be warned, this is the only shop I see where they will not refund if you bought something discounted, they will only exchange. Debenham's also do this if the item is 50% or more discounted but they do say this before you pay. At Jane Norman no one says anything (no one said anything to me when I bought) and you only realise this at the back of the receipt and I thought only financial companies (at least some of them) hide things in small print..
I wonder why they are the only ones who I have seen has this policy, other reputed high streey shops have a better customer care, maybe these folks know if they give refunds then everyone will queue up to get a refund? Anyway as I said, be warned is to be armed, and for me this sort of behaviour really annoys and leaves a very bitter after taste.
I see this chain had a tough 2009, with better 2010, maybe it is in 2010 they changed their returns policy and decided to hide it in small print
I for one will never go back....
I always use my local Jane Norman store in Nuneaton, it has been one of my favourite shops for quite some time but recently I have gone off the fashion in there.
The store in Nuneaton is of an average size, there are approximately 6 spacous changing rooms which are directly on the floor so if you don't pull the curtain across enough you could be flashing to the other shoppers!
The jeans are a very good fit and I have a pear shaped figure they are also sold in different leg lengths which for me is a benefit as I am quite short and struggle to find jeans that are the right length.
There is a wide variety of styles and normally the same top is sold in different colours which is useful for different outfits, some of the tops have a belt attached which is included in the price which I like because there is nothing worse then going to a checkout and finding you have had to pay extra for a belt that was with the outfit!
I have bought a few jackets from Jane Norman where the buttons have come of not long after purchasing the jacket.
I have found the fashion is always similar to the seasons before styles and think they could do with having some different styles.
I found Jane Norman is good for my work clothes and they also do some nice summer dresses.
The store in Nuneaton could do with having more of a range of shoes and handbags, but due to the store size I think it would be difficult for them to do.
The best thing about Jane Norman is the sales, some of the items I can't justify paying the full price but when they have a sale you normally find the items can have up to 75% off! The sales are quite regular and not always in time with the other stores which is useful.
I think it can be said that Jane Norman is one of my favourite clothes, I first hear about Jane Norman from one of my friends who said she loved thier clothes so I thought I would have a look, since then I periodically nip and more times than not end up leaving with something.
Jane Norman is an English clothing company which sells clothes and accessories aimed at woman. The company was original foundered by Norman Freed, however it has since been sold onto other buyers with the final one being Bauger in 2005. The company originally started off with a few stores however due to an increase in sales in 2006 100 more stores were opened, this took their total to over 116. The first Jane Norman I ever visited was a Jane Norman department within the department store Debenhams, at the time I didn't actually know that there were Jane Norman stores, I thought they were just departments within a shop, however since then we have had an actual Jane Norman store open in 2 of the towns near to where I live, they have certainly increased in numbers and popularity.
Clothing at Jane Norman
Jane Norman is a typical woman's clothing store they sell everything from jeans, tops (both smart and slightly more casual) skirts, shorts, dresses and jackets, personally I feel the clothes are of a better quality then some high street stores. They usually have a wide range of items to choose from, however if you visit a Jane Norman department within another store there is considerably less to choose from, I generally find that these departments tend to sell the more popular styles from their range, whereas the actual Jane Norman shops do have a much larger selection of clothes to choose from. Despite this most of the Jane Norman clothes I have bought have been from the department within Debenhams rather than the store itself. One thing I do find with Jane Norman (this is particularly the case with the small departments) is that sometimes they tend to have a particular style of say top which they will do in several different colours and patterns which I do feel reduces the selection they have to choose from, but as I said this is only sometimes other times they have a considerable range to choose from. The majority of clothes I have from Jane Norman are tops and jackets, I always struggle to find jeans that fit nicely, they are either the right length and the wrong waist size or visa versa so I tend to steer clear of the jeans, however this is probably just me as I know several people who buy Jane Norman jeans and have no problems what so ever. All of the tops that I have bought have lasted extremely well, I have got fed up with them before they have worn out!!!!!!!! As with the jeans I do find the sizes are slightly different in Jane Norman whilst the clothes range from a size 6 to either 16 or 18 I find that I tend to have to buy tops one size bigger than I usually would, in my experience the sizes are not as generous as other stores I have shopped in, however this would not put me off shopping in Jane Norman as I find sizes range from store to store anyway, but it is worth noting if you plan on shopping there, I would recommend trying on before you buy.
Aswell as clothes Jane Norman also sell a range of accessories including handbags, jewellery, purses and various scarves ect. Whilst I have not bought any of the jewellery ect I have bought and been bough many Jane Norman handbags. Again they are of an excellent quality and are very hard wearing. They do a variety of styles and sizes, I particularly like their large handbags as these are very good for taking to work, you can stuff as much junk in them as you like and they do not break like some other bags I have bought. One thing which annoys me with some handbags is that the lining splits really, out of all the Jane Norman handbags I have had the lining has not split in any of them, so no more hunting around for lost items in the lining. As I have said it is only the bags I have tried from the accessories section of Jane Norman but if the clothes and bags are anything to go by I imagine these would so be of a good quality. I would defiantly say that the bags are of a better quality than some bags you buy from other high street retailers.
Obviously the prices vary depending on the item you buy, however i do think that Jane Norman products to tend to be a little pricey compared to some stores, for example jeans usually cost around £40, dresses can vary from £30 upwards and tops can be anything between £20 and £35. However I do think that the quality of clothes you ca buy from Jane Norman is worth paying a little more for, everything is so long lasting you certainly get your moneys worth. The hand bags are also a little expensive ranging between £20 and upwards, the price tends to depend on the size hand bag you buy. You do often find that there is a sale on in Jane Norman, I recently bought 2 tops for about £30 which should have cost over £40 for the 2 and a hand bag for £21 which was also reduced buy quite a bit of money, so although the prices are quite high you can often get a bargain.
I personally have found that the Jane Norman stores are well set out and quite stylish, the rails are not to close together and the clothes are displayed so that they are easy to see, obviously i can only comment on the Jane Norman stores i have been in but I think they are all quite similar. One criticism I have about the shop is that they do tend to have the music ridiculously loud, I was in my local Jane Norman at the weekend and the assistant actually had to go an turn the music down as the customer (not me) she was serving could not hear what she was saying, all the assistants serving were actually shouting over the music to be heard. Other than that I have on complaints with the stores at all. All items you buy come in a shiny coloured plastic bag with a reinforced cardboard bottom and rope handles. The colour of the bag frequently changes but all have the words Jane Norman written in large black letters on the side. The bags, like the clothing are of a good quality, do not tare and could be reused. Gift vouchers are also available in Jane Norman stores and come in the usually form of actual vouchers rather than gift cards, these come in £10's, £20'S and I think possibly £50's although I am not 100% sure about that.
Overall I would certainly recommend Jane Norman to anyone, they are a very good woman's clothes store which sells high quality items. Although a little expensive the items are well worth the money.
Being a mum of 2 I never really buy expensive clothes, I am a stay at home mum and there is really no need for me to have a £50 top on to do housework in so I stick to my nice cheap but nice shops such as Primark, MK1, peacocks.
Two years ago my brother was getting married; I was maid of honour so I didn't need a day outfit just something for the evening. Deciding that I would buy something nice from a good shop I dragged my poor partner and kids around Liverpool city centre for hrs they where not happy, but 2 happy meals later and a few cups of coffee for the grown up they seemed a little more perky.
Having tried loads and loads of shops I found nothing so walking past Jane Norman I thought why not I have tried everywhere else.
Lucky for me (and my partner lol) there was a sale on.
THE STORE ~
It was rather small to be honest and it was packed so my partner had to wait outside with the kids and pram. But the store was laid out nice not much room to get around things but nice. And it was tidy to my surprise, with there being a sale on I thought I would find the dress of my dreams lay on the floor with muddy shoe marks all over it but I was wrong and everything was tidy on hangers still and unlike most shops at sale time dresses where in a dress section tops where in a top section and that made shopping in there a little better because as much as I love sales I hate finding racks and racks of clothes randomly hung all over the place.
Where nice, the right sort of girls for the shop lol and by that yes I mean the skinny girls with the perfect hair and nails and make up, outfit, shoes you name it so that when paying for something made you wish you had the time that morning to remove the chipped nail polish on you fingers :-|.
Lol but overall they where polite and helpful but that didn't stop me wishing they all woke up with warts the next day ha! of course I'm kidding......I promise!
Are lovely, very trendy and they have some great stuff in there, the store I used didn't have a great range as it was only a small shop but it had enough, jeans, dresses, casual tops, work wear, sunglasses, bags. Basically there was a little of everything. I expect the larger stores have a bit more choice in them.
The stock they have is all lovely and you could pick out loads of things to buy if let on the lose but that being said I have noticed that they don't seem to have a huge change in there clothes from season to season normally very much the same in shapes and colours but all still very nice and if like me you don't shop there all the time it wont bother you because you don't already have a wardrobe full of Jane Norman stuff.
If you are not one of the girls I described up in the staff section then have fun finding something to fit in this shop.
I am a size 12 but in Jane Norman I need a 14 (not nice when you have worked out everyday for your brothers wedding to find you need a bigger size in the shop but hey that's life) lol anyway like I was saying don't be surprised if you need a bigger size in this shop they tend to think that only toned and slim girls would want to buy things from there, and that's a shame because I am all for the real woman thing, having been a size 8 before children I don't miss it at all and love having curves so its a shame stores like this insist on only doing sizes up to a 14, they may go to 16 but I have never seen that size in a shop.
Are high be warned, don't expect to get a dress for less than £45 and that would be cheap, unless its sale time but to be honest if I was going to spend that money I would spend it here because the clothes are lovely they fit nice and are very well made so it does all reflect in the price.
But if you are looking for basics like vest tops and t shirts I wouldn't go here because you can pay £20 for a single t shirt when really if all you want is basics you can go to far cheaper shops like international and get vest tops for around £5.
Great shop, nice selection of clothes but if its not sale time can be a little expensive, that being said in a sale I managed to get the dress I wanted and a pair of trousers and a top oh and some sunglasses lol for a vey fair price of £60.
Of course you get the lovely Jane Norman shopping bags that you see most school girls holding there books in for free and they are quite big so you can fit lots of other stuff in it while out shopping. Or you could just buy enough to fill it right up lol that's up to you really but I recommend anyone looking for a nice outfit for a special occasion to try this shop because they do have some lovely clothes.
Jane Norman is great for evening wear - so you better get the party started whether it's a Friday night or a Saturday night! The evening wear is sexy, comfortable, fashionable, all difference sizes and colors, as well you can have lots of great wear out of it! All clothing range from sizes six to sixteen - so they have a size dress for everyone! Sadly, the clothes are small cut - so you may have to buy a size 12 instead of a 10. It's also great for day wear, handbags, jewellery and other accessiories! Even though the clothing is expensive, (some items can range from seventy pounds to one hundred pounds) but you can find some great pieces when they have their sales whether it's 50% off or 75% off - there will be something for you whether it's a bag, top, jeans, necklace or dress!
However the disadvantage of buying a sale item is that you are not able to exchange - but have to buy an item that price or larger (but your exchanged item can be something different to the previous item you bought!) For example, if you bought a eight pound t-shirt or handbag you will have to find an item which is eight pounds or higher. You can find most Jane Norman stores in cities big or small - check their website to find where your nearest Jane Norman is at www.JaneNorman.co.uk. The good thing is, if you have to travel a distance to get your nearest Jane Norman you can buy items on their website and they'll arrive within 3-5 days of purchase.
From personal experience, I don't buy Jane Norman clothing at it's original price I usually wait till their seasonal sales where their clothing and items are a lot cheaper and where you can fish some really good bargains. Personally i think that some of there clothing is a little over priced, but you usually have to wait a while before it reaches the sale rails! But the clothing is good and worth the buy! Mind you at the end of the day, not everyone will be wearing the same top, jeans, dress or whatever.
Being a very petite size 6, i have always shopped at Jane Norman, as they always cater for people with small frames like me! If ever i need a top i know i will always find something to wear in here!
They nearly always have a size six out in the store in everything i want, except for when i visited my local store today! The top i wanted to try on was just a plain white vest top, i decided to pick up a size 8 and try it on as the sizes are so small in this shop i thought i might get away with a size bigger. Id picked up the same top in black, also in a size 8 as they did not have this one in a size 6 either. I went into the changing rooms to try these tops on and a few other items id picked up. I first tried the black vest top on which fit perfectly and decided i was going to get this at £12, fit nicely. Then i tried on the same top, but in white and it was sooo tight i struggled getting it on to be honest, now i am only 6 stone 11 pounds, which is tiny and i could not get this top off when i put it on! I could hardly breathe in it, it was so tight, you must need to be about 5 stone to fit in this top?! Yet i tried the same one on in black in the same size and it fit perfectly! I dont understand why this top was so tight but i seriously thought i might have to cut it off it was so tight! I eventually got it off and decided not to buy this top in either colour! I think i might have needed about a size 14 in this top for it to fit ok, very strange fitting top.
However i usually always get the size i want, and they usualy fit my frame perfectly. Sometimes when i try tops on and they are so tight i think how small do you have to be to fit in this! It is scary how small the sizes are in there sometimes, they are more like for size 0 girls! I do struggle in other shops to find small enough sizes, but never have this problem in jane norman.
I dont think jane norman caters for women who are larger, i dont think i have ever seen a top in there bigger than a size 16!
I think the price of the clothes in jane norman do not reflect the quality of the clothes. Although i am willing to pay more for nice clothes that fit perfectly, i hate that they do not seem to last very long. I have tops from other places such as new look, west one etc that i have worn for years and years, yet i tend to have to throw away clothes from jane norman a lot. Especially jumpers, which look very worn out after a few wears, i have noticed this with every jumper i have bought from jane norman. A top in this shop usualy costs you about £25 which is very expensive when you can go in new look for example and buy a top much better quality. I have seen exactly the same top once in west one, that they had in jane norman for £25, and in west one it was £12.
The jeans are a great buy from jane norman, they cost around £35-£40 but they do last years, are a great fit and comfortable. I buy all my jeans from here.
I also love the jane norman website, which hasnt been open long as i wished for ages they would do a website! Finally they have got one, and its great for sale items. I hate going through sales in the shops, so it is handy to just have a look on the website for exactly what you want.
I love the handbags from jane norman, i have had mine that i bought from there for 2 years now, and i still use it everyday! It goes with everything!
Jane norman always have the latest fashions in, and i cant help going in when you see whats in the window!
Overall, i would recommend jane norman, but the sizes vary in different tops! Some tops are so small i wouldnt of thought anyone could fit into them!
Jane norman. Women's clothes shop.
I personally love this shop, I use the online catalogue and the town store. Its great for Jeans especially. They do a wide range of Jeans from drain pipe right to boot cut fittings in petite and larger sizes. Prices range from 30 to 40 pounds. They do all occasions tops, knitwear and dresses. accessories and bags. Also they do a small range of footwear. I love to buy my summer dresses from here they never look cheap and tacky. You always look classy when dressing from Jane norman the jeans and tops come in all year round. I'm very short yet have my woman's full figure so finding jeans to fit me can be a pain at times.. Until i found Jane norman now my jeans are never too long and fit just right in the waist! I also love the colours they do at Jane norman always pretty girly colours. I would recommend Jane norman to all women out there. its a great shop and most stores always has nice friendly staff to!
Jane Norman is a great shop for women who love to be girly. I personally rate this store as whenever i walk past the window i never fail to see a garment in which i immediatly fall in love with. The cloths from this store always fit to perfection as they mainly cater for the petite range. The prices can varie within the store somtimes garments seem over priced but i have encounted several moments of looking at the tag and thinking "wow what a bargin". The sales in which the stores hold are always rarther good and most things get reduced twice which is even better. Not only does this store sell clothes but bags and accsessories too which ultimatly complete you out fit. As a student i love to shop in Jane norman as you can find an outfit for ever occasion and look classy and feminine as a low cost.
I feel the store could extend the size range to cater for larger women.
I have always loved Jane Norman, as a petite lady it's nice to go to a shop where I can get clothes to fit properly and that are a bit different. However, I bought a stone coloured wrap jumper with a press stud in the Christmas sales. It was £17.50, reduced from £35. Still quite expensive for an acrylic jumper, but I liked it so I bought it. I wore the item and washed it on 30 degree wash as the label stated, only to find that the washing completely transformed it. It was ruined. No longer was the trim fluffy and firm; it had thinned and was floppy. It was no longer wearable. I took it back and asked for a refund or exchange. I was told by the manager that I could not have either. She said that she herself owned that item and hers was fine and that she would have heard if any batches were faulty because other people would have taken them back. I asked her to explain what had happened if it wasn't faulty. To this, she basically blamed me, saying it must be down to 'external factors.' Her attitude was appalling; not once did she apologise for what had happened. She left me fuming, and I'm not easily riled. I wonder, how will they know if other people have taken them back, if no one allows the item to be returned? This has seriously knocked my opinion of this shop. My advice to anyone else - if you really do want to buy an item from Jane Norman, hand wash it, no matter what the label says.
my daughter tried to return a gifted jumper with the gift receipt but was told no refund without the till receipt also. So as I had the till receipt I took it back ...No refund again as I was told I had to take it back to the same branch it was bought in . 2 wasted journeys and petrol. Now I have to travel 25 miles to where it was bought, Customer service stinks. Never again will I or my family shop there, its not worth the hassle. They don`t seem to respect there customers at all ..so its good bye from us .
I love the look of Jane Norman clothes and have shopped there many a time.
The clothes do come with quite a price tag, but are a good quality, so mostly worth the price you pay. Their jeans are usually a brilliant fit, and we all know how hard it is to get jeans to fit right! A lot of the tops are an extra length too, for those girls with a long torso, and boy do I know this problem.
They also do a nice range of coats, purses, bags and other accessories. Any items I have bought from Jane Norman all last forever, had no problems with wear and tear or fading, so they appear to be made well, and I have never even had anything fade in the wash, even the bright colored garments.
The major problem for Jane Norman, in my opinion, is that they don't really make clothes for above a size 12 or a small 14, so anyone above that size can't wear these clothes, which I think is a bit unfair, as women don't all come in one size these days.
The staff in Jane Norman are usually pretty helpful and friendly, and the stores are always nice, clean and tidy, with the clothes in color sections as well as style sections.
For those who can afford it, and can fit in their clothes, Jane Norman is a great place to shop.
