Advantages: Knowledgeable staff, helpful, can order stock in, good ranges

Disadvantages: Expensive compared with online stores

I am really into photography and am often popping into various photographic stores to see what is on offer or what new cameras and equipment they have in stock.

I have a small Jessops store near to where I live and also a larger one in another nearby town. I took my camera in to be repaired as there was a problem with the memory card slot. The camera was under a year old and still under warranty as it was bought in another Jessops store. There was no problem with getting it repaired, they took my details and sent the camera away and I got a phonecall after about a week saying it was ready to pick up from the store. All fixed free of charge.

The staff in Jessops in general do know a lot about the cameras and equipment they are selling and seem to have a passion for photography and are able to advise you on products so it is a great place to go if you are unsure on what to buy. They can also order stock in if they do not have it available.

I must admit though that I do find the prices in Jessops a lot more expensive than other outlets and certainly more than you would pay for the same items at online camera stores, but it depends if you are looking for help and guidance regarding the products.

I my opinion, the stores do look rather empty sometimes mainly because of the amount of items that are kept behind the counters for security reasons such as memory cards and batteries, but this does make it difficult to browse as you keep having to ask to look at them and check the prices with staff.

They also have kiosks instore for photo processing or you can leave your film or memory card for the staff to process your photos, although I have never used these services as I tend to print my own photos at home.

If you are looking for expertise and guidance and don't mind paying a bit more for the procuct then go to Jessops.

Summary: The helpful photography store

I used Jessops a couple of years ago to reclaim photos from a memory card that just would agree to being read at home. They were very good and efficient and staggeringly cheap. I honestly can't remember how much it was, but I remember it being a lot less than I expected.
