Advantages: Some good quality products
Disadvantages: Unwillingness to replace/refund faulty laptop
I heard about John Lewis a couple of years ago, they came across as a quality catalogue/store that sold high quality items only, nothing was on the cheap! and most products even a bin would cost at least 10-20 pounds, no less mainly. Granted they sell high quality products and sell just about everything - computers, hoovers, heaters, irons, toasters, washing machines - everything! and they are on the internet now as well also stores are in town, just like in my home town!
My experience of John Lewis is quite a performance actually and i really did have a experience dealing with them. I bought a iron from them, it cost quite a lot but i gave it a chance and it was a John Lewis brand item as well but when it came it looked VERY cheap like it cost less than half what i paid them! but i kept it no problem because it said 14 days so i let it go really. I then bought a toaster which was really good and i kept. I also bought another toaster and that was fine as well! so i kept that. Then i bought a laptop and what a mistake i made! i bought a Sony Viao laptop from them it worked fine untill i tried burning a couple of DVD's using DVD Movie Maker and i put in a new recordable disk, and the software just wouldn't detect that so then i just returned it, after about 2 weeks i got a refund for the amount, and they where abit of a hassle with organising for someone to come round to collect it.
Stupidly, i decided to buy another laptop from them - a HP Pavilon laptop! and that worked absoultely fine for about 1 month, but after that it started getting slow, kept freezing, was so slow i just couldn't cope - i paid £399 for the laptop and i after the month had heard they do you a guarantee for a year, so i thought i was covered so i sent it in. They kept it for one month, no reply nothing. Then they sent it back saying the laptop was dirty and for that reason we can't give you a refund and not to bother sending it back to them for a refund so basically i'm stuck with it. I admit i do eat around the computer so maybe the occasional crumb might have been found but i did clean it before sending it so i'm not sure if they where just looking for a replacement. Someone even wrote on the box HA HA which i found very disrespectful.
I did then call customer service about the issue and was basically laughed at, they where not willing to hear my side of the story basically said that because it was not in a clean state we can't do anything and basically i just thought they are looking for a excuse to not repair it. Then the hinge came loose shortly after - i think this is not me! and HP after a couple of months the hinge was weak and broke, HP where abit of a hassle but to be fair they fixed it. If it was for John Lewis i would have lost £400 for a laptop they should at least under guarantee at least replace or refund any problems.
I am not pleased with John Lewis. They didnt help me, didnt listen to my phone calls, i had to do several calls to speak to someone, the ha ha bit is disrespectful, i said i have cleaned it now and shall i send it to you it still doesn't work and was literally told it was ''not there problem''. They looked for a excuse and guess they must have sat with a fine comb and microscope to just look for a excuse. Quite displeased, it's a lot of money and cant believe they didnt help. I ended up buying a laptop from somewhere else, NOT JOHN LEWIS and i am using that right now.
They where a hassle, i found a particular customer service representative RUDE one-sided, i said that despite it having some biscuit crumbs didnt change the fact that it was slow and there where software and speed problems!
Summary: John Lewis is one of the most well known brands in the UK
